My current vehicle has a maintenance problem that I don't want to fix knowing I am about to get rid of it for a new Tacoma. The maintenance problem is intermittent, but causes the dash to light up like a christmas tree when it is acting up. How should I go about dealing with this during the trade-in? Be upfront since they have already given me a sight-unseen price? Or, let them figure it out and see what happens? (they will eventually find out)

Depends, are you an honest person or not? There is your answer.

Sounds like a grounded alternator... ( I have suffered with this with a friends truck, not a Toyota. )

    Buy a cheap rebuilt alternator.

Yes, be as honest as a dealer would be with you. Omitting something is not a lie IMHO.

i say dont say a word, do you really think they are going to loose money??? most dealers here put the cars or trucks for 4-6K above trade in price, plus the amount they make on a new one, your talking a 10k profit from you and who ever buys your car/truck, think that 500-1000 they put in would kill them??? wasnt for the fact i hate buying used i would go used, i just like to know the maintence history (oil changes to be exact) and how hard they beat the piss outta the car/truck, if its new, i know what i did, and if it breaks, it my fault, but, i say, trade it in, like my salesmen for my snowmobile told me, everyone trades in something for a reason, and its just not because they want new....

Meh. I'm sure there are plenty of times people trade in problem riddled vehicles. Not like that holds true all the time though I've gotten rid of a couple vehicles to get something new or different and there was nothing wrong with them.

dont say a word that will just give them more reason to dock you on trade in value and theyll make up excuses on why its so low when it can possibly be a minor fix...when they put it on the lot theyll fix it themselves...some people are saying be honest, when has a dealership been honest with a customer about price

It is the dealer's responsibility. If asked, be truthful. Else, be silent.

I wanna wait until the new regulations with fuel economy play out for the tacoma if its a lot more then i will trade my 07 in ..im assuming gas prices are going to go up in the future so i love having a truck so im thinking logically ill just get a vehicle that can keep up with it...

This is how folks drive off with a certified used vehicle with problems. Fix the problem or let them know and they can deal with it.
