PA15-TOY Ipod Adapter in 2009 Taco ?

Has anyone installed the PA15-TOY ipod adapter in a 2009 Taco ?

I have mine installed, and working, without TEXT support for some reason. It's hooked to an 2nd gen ITouch, which I understand has some compatability issues.

Also, has anyone been able to get the new cable, which will charge the NEW ipods, from USASPEC ?

They keep ignoring my emails.

I have a 2008 taco and I just ordered the PA15-TOY last week since they said the new cables were shipping which they were. I got it earlier this week and installed it today. The installation process was very easy and the hook ups were straight forward.

So, I tested it out and turned on the ACC to verify everything was in working order. However, my iPhone 3G came up w/ a message saying it was incompatible with this adapter and asked if I wanted to go into airplane mode. I was puzzled by this and hit "no". It then went to the iPod app that just showed some sort of message saying it was being controlled by the PA15-TOY. So, I tried it out on the stereo and it did seem to work. I was able to change songs, move to different playlists and change it to direct mode where I could select the songs on the iPhone itself.

Yet, the main point was that I wanted my phone to charge with whatever adapter I chose. I could overlook this incompatible message if it charges... and yet it doesn't right now. I called crutchfield and they gave me a number of a guy at USA spec that I'm going to call on Monday to see if maybe he knows why it isn't charge and why that message is coming up. It could be that I just have a defective cable. These cables are very new so there doesn't seem to be much activity online about them (troubleshooting).

 

I had the Grom interface and could not get it to work with my 2009 stock single CD HU. It played however would not change CD (playlists) and no text. Grom was very good about refunding my money and they claimed there is a difference in the 2009 HU and they have not looked into it at this time.

Would love to know if anyone has an interface that worked properly with the 2009.

 

There's been no responses on this in a while.

Has anyone got the working on an 09 with JBL?

I ask because the interface kit Toyota sells will not work.

I have been in touch with Grom and nothing yet. You might try them. The OEM from Toyota did not work for you ?

 

Nope, didn't work. I have the 09 with XM. The toyota tech guys, after an hour or so, came back and said it's not compatible. There is an empty 12-pin (i think) slot on the radio. The interface kit plugged in perfectly and started charging the IPOD. But, it uses the SAT button to control it and there wasnt' a way to disconect the XM.

I just ordered the USA Spec one (PA15-TOY). It looks like it plugs into the same place but uses the CD buttons. Will let you know later this week how it works.

 

Just wondering if someone could confirm if this works. Just picked my Tacoma today and already need my Ipod...darn Apple...made me so dependent.

btw, I have the XM radio and the in-dash 6 CD changer too.

 

The USA Tech PA15-TOY works fine in the 09 with the JBL and XM setup. Very easy install.

 

Hey guys-
I just ordered it PA15TOY from Crutchfield, list price was $159 and I found a $20 off coupon online. Total came out to $139 with free shipping and no tax. Should have it by the end of the week.

 

Start setting up your iPod with the playlists so you'll be ready to go. You can use the first 6 that are on your ipod now, or create new ones (i.e. TOYOTA1, TOYOTA2, etc.. up to 6). I barely listen to the radio anymore.

 

Just installed the PA15TOY in my 09 DC last night, just for those interested I have the JBL head unit with built in 6 disc changer.

My goals were two fold-
1. To install a adapter that will allow me full access to my 15gb Itouch through the steering wheel controls as well as keep it charged at all times.
2. Provide an aux input other than the stock input jack in my dash below the A/C controls. This is where I have plugged in my Sirius Starmate, the bundle of wires look like crap and it's driving me nuts.

The PA15TOY adapter provided everything and more. Installation was very easy. It took more time to create the play list on Itunes then it did to install.

I'm not done yet as I am still playing with the final position of the Sirius player, it needs to be twisted slightly toward the driver otherwise the glare is too much to see the display.
It is a pleasure being able to toggle between Sirius-Itouch-Radio-CD at any given time all through the steering wheel! I should have purchased this a long time ago.

Sorry to bump an older topic, but I have a question. I have the factory radio (do not have the CD changer one). Just the regular.

Factory radio must have CD changer controls (ok, so this makes me think I need the CD changer one).
but then
The factory radio must not have a built-in CD changer...

WTF? Call me retarded but that doesn't make sense. Is the first item talking about the numbers that are usually used to program radio stations? Will this work with my 09 taco?

Just give crutchfield a call...they should be able to sort that out no problem.

 

Well got it installed... scratched the shit out of my fingers, and some scratches on the grey area too because of the radio... might try and find a grey marker to cover those up...

I am annoyed at the lack of volume still though... it is great on CDs.. but not with the IPOD Just like with the AUX port! ARGH! Haven't tested it out while driving yet though.... :/
