satoshi mod, sliders, tinted tails/3rd brake, 3" lift,
After running a 3" lift and 33" tires for about 5 years now I'm considering putting a 6" lift in my truck. (2008 Trd sport Dble cab longbox 4x4.) everything I'm reading says I can run a minimum of 18" wheels. I have no interest in putting bling 18"s on my truck and want to stick with my stock 17"s. does anyone know if it's possible to run the stock wheels? I do have wheel spacers currently on my truck so I'm not sure if that's all I would need to do to combat this wheel size issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went thru the same delimma. I don't like big wheels & definetly didn't want to spend extra $$ on them. I'm not sure if the stockers will fit, even with wheel spacers.....the back spacing might be too low.

All the kits call for 18's because the tie rod end will be mounted on top of the bigger kit knuckles & make contact with the inside lip of 16's/17's.

With that being said, I am running Ivan Stewart 16x8 wheels along with a 6" kit.....but......my wheels have 4.5" back spacing & I'm running 1.25" Spidertraxx wheel spacers. The wheels fit and only clear the tie rod end by less than .25".

So.....running a 16" or 17" wheel is possible but the wheel spacers are definetly needed and the back spacing needs to be 4.5" or more.

Well I pulled this info from a thread here on tacoma world. If tis info is correct looks like I should be fine with the backspacing. I just need to figure out what size my spacers are. (It's been 5 years since they went on and I can't remember)

Thanks a lot for the help.

On a side note I thought I read somewhere on here that there was a way to turn a 6" into an 8" lift using strut spacers? Now I do wheel the truck almost every weekend so I don't want to do this if its a sketchy setup.

I'd ideally like to run 37"s on my truck and don't really want to stick a 3" body lift to achieve this. Sas is out of the question at this point as I can't afford the downtime or the price at this time.

Well, you can do what I did......install the lift kit & then test fit your wheels along with the spacers. If they don't fit, you'll know right then. And then it's time to break out the credit card.

On another note....you need to verify the back spacing on your sport wheels.....5.5 seems off to me.

I have a 6" win 17" rims as long as you don't have the slip control button you can run 17 but if you do you got to run 18.
