oem alarm install

Anyone installed a vip3200? Just wondering how many hrs I'm looking at to get it installed. Thxs

 

Guess it depends on your technical skills. Probably around 3 hours. Mostly taking off panels and finding the correct wiring under the dash/kick panels. I almost went your route with my keyless entry but am glad that I went aftermarket. The OEM setup is so limited, works off horn, basic sensor, really can't upgrade. I spent $350 for my LCD autopage w/remote start and installation included. Took the shop 4 hrs but well worth it.

 

The VIP RS3200 Plus works off the horn!? It doesn't come with a siren?

 

I am pretty sure the OEM doesn't come with the siren. Only works off the horn and I don't even think it will automatically locks the doors when you start the truck. Very limited and for the cost of the factory alarm, you are always better off going aftermarket with alot better options. I've seen a few Taco owners selling their factory alarms for around $50 on CL over the years. I know because I bought one and resold it after I realized how limited it was.

 

I installed the RS3200 Plus OEM alarm in my 2010 Tacoma PreRunner on 03/25/13. It is a lot of work requiring removal of numerous dash parts, pulling and exchanging electrical pins in one electrical connector and routing the long V5 wires/connectors from the drivers side, through the center dash and into the passenger electrical connections. The fit is tight. On the passenger side it states to plug in the V5 grey connector with the truck grey connector but the picture in the manual does not match up and the location where the manual states to do this is an empty spot. It was obvious a change was made by the manufacturer. I found a white 11P connector higher up that did the trick and installed the V5 grey connector to this 11P white connector. After it was all done it worked fine. Nothing had to be spliced or cut. It was all plug-in-play. Installing the RS3200 Plus in the Tacoma requires time and lots of patience.

The most useful tool I found that helped me was a 10mm socket and a light that my mom gave me that you wear on your head. Working with two hands and not having to handle a flashlight was a BIG plus.

After following the directions step-by-step, putting the negative battery cable back on and starting your truck, it will rev for awhile and then go back to normal. It does use the stock horn and your existing truck key. I paid $230 for it and it took me about 5 hours.

My 2013 Corolla was way easier with half the connectors and length.

I hope this helps anyone that can use the info.

 

Just a heads up, any alarm other than the OEM one will require some cutting and splicing, which I personally wouldn't want done to a brand new truck.

Maybe try another dealer.
