I have done some searching looking for a write up on 2nd gen leaf pack replacement and found a bunch of AAL stuff but not a step by setp pack replacement. Anyone know of a thread that details this? Thanks.

Yeah. This thread. You need a floor jack, a set of bigass jackstands, common tools, and common sense. A second jack and set of jackstands is helpful but not strictly necessary.

    - Jack up your truck real good. Use a floor jack under the axle.
    - Support it by the frame on some bigass jackstands.
    - Lower the axle gently until it's drooping.
    - Remove the shocks.

This is where you start being careful. Er. Carefuller? More careful? More carefuller? Something.

Point being, at this point the load bearing structure holding your axle to your truck is the leaf springs. If you remove them and jostle the axle such that it falls off the jack, prepare to shred your brake lines, ABS data lines, etc.

    So:

    - Support the axle on a second set of jackstands if available.
    - Unbolt leaf pack u-bolts.
    - Unbolt leaf pack shackle and frame mount bolts.
    - Remove leaf pack.
    - Reverse steps with new leaf pack.

It may take some repositioning of the axle/articulating of the axle to get everything to line up. A second floor jack can be helpful for this.

    Have fun!

Installed the Dakars today, followed Steve's (BJMOOSE) write up for the most part. I didn't change break lines, just removed all the break line and ABS line bracket bolts attached to the rear diff. This gave me more than enough room to lower the diff and get the old springs out and the new ones in. OMG were those Dakars heavy compared to the 4 leaf's that were in there. Also shimmed the carrier bearing to prevent drive line vibs.

All in all the job went rather smooth. I took it for a test drive expecting the ride to be a bit harsh, man I don't believe it changed much at all, still responsive not hard and jaring.

So now I have a set of TSB springs if anyone is interested. Not up for shipping these beasts so the local option is best.
