i got a 2010 tacoma with a 4.0 and when i was driving it home the light came on to change the oil. i called the dealer and they said that they would change the oil. so now i have over 3000 miles on it and the light has not came back on. how many miles can u drive on a oil change before the light comes on. my friend just got a new car and he has a thing that says oil is % good. he says it says it has over 6000 miles on this oil and the car is saying his oil life has 54% life

The light has no intelligence behind it like the GM OLM... it's simply a clock that lights up every 5000 miles.
The GM OLM is actually pretty accurate if you are using the recommended oil.

Actually you’re supposed to pull over to the side of the road and change it immediately! (no not really) I think they start flashing at you around 500 miles ahead of time that could be what you saw only stays on for a second or two.

Yep, it just blinks for a few seconds from 4,500-4,999. Then at 5,000 it'll stay on all the time until you reset it.
