I would have to agree. It only takes a very small amount of water. My buddy had a 93' Mustang with a ram air that sat just under the front valence and hydrolocked his motor coming out of McDonalds in a small puddle. He was pissed!..

Thanks. I wound up paying $3500 to have the engine repaired. Urd does not cover it.

    NOTE: to anyone watching

a non-fatal hydrolock can occur more often than a sudden hydrolock

You might get just enough over-compression from a small hydrolock to slightly damage the
wrist-pin or bearing shells on the crankshaft...and over time this will eat away
at itself and cause a later failure...10,000 miles later or whatever...oil analysis should
reveal increased metals should you fear that you might have sucked in water and 'Whew! I got away
    with that one...'

...maybe you didn't really get away with it...oil analysis x2 is what to do next if you think you came close.
if it is going to blow up later metals will increase over time

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Or... when you water crossing keep your engine RPM's low. Best to idle through. Put on 4L and let truck roll through, and if you need to give it gas keep it under 1000 RPM's.

Just a bunch of old crap
Let me mention that a few CAI's come with a protective splash shroud that works pretty good. If you use the rubber edging that they come with, you can get a pretty good defense against big splashes from high speed puddle crossings. I'm not saying they're ideal, but some are designed right.

An exposed CAI filter is very vulnerable though. That's just asking for trouble.

    +1

Likewise for the unnecessary "brake booster hose" application of Seafoam.

I hydrolocked a 93 4runner a few years ago doing the same thing as OP. Puddle maybe went as high as halfway up my wheel. I went blasting through and truck died. Had to get towed out and an engine rebuild (thankfully the 3.slo motor was only 1600 to repair) the lesson learned was there is no need to blast through puddles unless you like ruining motors.

Just go slow and you'll never need a snorkel. Unless it's deep enough, then you can get into trouble anyway.

I'm more worried about car washes...from what I'm reading I would run a risk just by washing this thing.
