Can I drive my truck w/o driveshaft?

In an effort to troubleshoot a vibe/hum sound I want to rule out the carrier bearing and any u joints heading to the rear axle.
SO I thought withought the drive shaft in place can I run the vehicle in 4WD high and see if the symptoms dissapear
Dont know if the drivtrain can handle it but if I could do it, it would isolate a bunch of compnents at once???

That's retarded, but yes. People have limped their trucks back on fwd before. I think Jason had to do it when he fucked up his back axle. It's not a good idea though

Yes.

This is actually part of the written Toyota technical procedures for troubleshooting
various vibration issues in order to isolate problems. truck will drive fine on front wheel drive only,
just don't carry any loads or tow anything. don't leave it disconnected longer than
necessary to isolate problems.

 

Completely fine. I don't understand why everyone is saying it's bad. You can even safely make tight turns on pavement without the rear driveshaft in place.

 

agreed. there are no issues removing rear driveshaft and running in 4Hi to troubleshoot.

x2, perfectly fine as long as you don't make a habit out of it and a good way to isolate a vibration problem.

 

Make sure you mark your driveshaft and u-joints before you remove it.
