Bed Space Vs. Trailer...Thoughts?

I think maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on needing to step up to a fullsize for more bed space. I have an AC, and would like to get into a double cab for more interior room, however, I was hesitant to get a dbl cab LB for the fact that my bed would still be too small to haul with.

Then I got to thinking, the hauling I've been doing, I don't really care to do in the bed (pavers, rocks, firewood, etc) because it can really mark be rough on the bed over time. Why not get a nice trailer?

How many of you guys prefer taking a trailer to load with rather than in the bed? I would want a good size trailer with depth to it, but as long as I have the tow package, and use some common sense (trailer brakes), I should be able to haul anything I could in a fullsize bed and then some. To top it all off, when you're done, you jut unhook the trailer, and you're back to driving a good sized, offroad capable vehicle (whereas you aren't with a fullsize).

So now, I'm back to leaning toward getting a double cab longbed WITH the tow package.

 

I don't haul big loads very often so I opted for the short bed. I have a 10 foot utility trailer for use if I'm hauling lumber,lawn and garden supplies, deer feeders/stands, etc. I decided that for me - the manueverability of the smaller truck outweighed the convenience of a larger bed - especially since I park every day on the 9th floor of a parking garage. So far it has worked great for me.

 

I prefer to use a trailer whenever possible in order to keep stuff out of my bed. I have a 12 ft trailer and a 6ft long trailer with 3ft side walls. I also have a lot of friends with trailers, and they never use them so I'm able to borrow them whenever I want. My buddys trash trailer comes in handy! Nice to have friends!

 

I agree, it's not that bad most of the time with the short 5' bed and maneuvering is much easier. We travel with our 2 large dogs in their kennels in the bed and then have our luggage + everything we need for our 4 month old baby. We're packed full by this time, so I just bought a hitch mounted cargo carrier for our road trips. I also have a 5'x10' trailer for the ATV, Lowe's runs, mulch, top soil, etc, etc instead of having to beat up the truck bed with all that. So far, it's worked out just fine.
