I plan to, at dads shop, w/ the fronts pre assembled. Its already costing enough without the 400+ some place would charge me for the install.

I think it took me about 4 hours to do my OME kit, front struts and rear leaf pack...

My biggest hitch was the Total Chaos UCAs and freeing up the rusted-in leaf spring bolts...And by freeing up, I mean eventually cutting.

I guess with my last question I should have also asked what ability level you would consider yourselves. I've always done my own brakes. Had to drop the drive shaft out of my Tundra. Had a friend help me redo a clutch in my old 94 Toyo pickup. And I also replaced my A/C compressor in my Tundra. Just as a indication of my abilitys(still not sure if I'm going to try to tackle it myself). I would like to save the dinero and I enjoy learning how to do these things.

There are not special tools or any thing you need. Just a few metric wrenches. I would say you could do it your self.. The only thing you might not have depending on your lift is a way to compress the front springs.

If your not sure how to do that, get a lift that has the front spring all ready on the shocks. A mess up with the front springs while installing new ones could = death. Oh and get good Jack stands.

But all and all it is an y easy install.

It really is an easy install. I count 26 fasteners and 4 wrench sizes (at least on a first gen). As long as you have the springs installed on the coilover and you don't have any rust issues, it is easy as pie.

Good point. I've been told recently by the local 4WD shop that the alignment cams on the Tacoma have a tendency to seize up. They suggested that each time I get an alignment, get the tech to move all adjustment then do the alignment. Anti seize or grease would definitely help.

Been there done that! It sucks. When we did the clutch in my Little Yta it was about 40 degrees and shitty lighting. The space I've got now is a well lit slab with ample room! So I should be good to go. Now to just figure out which lift kit I'm going to use and FIND THE TIME!

Yea man as long as you can turn a wrench you're fine. A can of WD-40 or something along those lines comes in handy and a cheater bar was a must for me. Access to air tools would have been real nice...

Oh and plenty of BEER!

I'd be interested in what each driver uses the truck for.

3" Revtek spacer kit in front w/ aal and 1" block in rear. No TSB aal installed yet. Spider Trax spacers.
Like the others have said, you get what you pay for.
Don't cut corners, do it right to be happy.

I planned on the toytech ultimate kit, but to save a few bucks I went with the 3" Revtec spacer kit for the front and it came with 1 aal for the rear which left the rear sagging at all times. So I had to add a 1" block, new u bolts, and billy's to the rear just to make it ride level and semi decent. The front spacer makes it ride like a brick and will soon be changed again with a quality coil over and shock.

And after all this not, including my labor I have only saved about $300 over the Toytec kit at my shop prices.

Spacer kits are junk no matter what type of driving you do.

Buy quality parts and continue to enjoy your truck.

Also with the weight the OP is hauling air bags are a great addition, as others have also stated.

Upstate NY here so lots of salt . Do you have any examples of ball joint style? Any downside to them? Also, anything to be careful with if I pull the Dakars apart before installing? Thanks!

I'm upstate NY as well and concerned with salt. I'm constantly spraying it down to keep the salt from sitting.

What have you done so far? Pics!!
