Im a HUGE animal lover, Especially dogs and people who abuse and harm them in anyway are less then human to me even lower then an animal. Ive said it before and il say it again, Id have no problem taking the life of someone who viciously abused a dog. People like that are just...Scum.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
That's awesome. How was the aftercare on your latest boy's ears?

    x2

Cosign. I know this alllll to damn well. Having owned 2 APBT's in the past and currently raising my newest APBT puppy, I know more than anyone the spotlight is immediately on us as soon as we are out in public with our dogs.

My last female APBT I had trained using AKC "CGC"(canine good citizen) standards and criteria---she was literally a test away from having official CGC papers which I never got around to doing. THE ONLY reason I had her on a leash during our daily neighborhood walk was for peace of mind of the other humans. I can't even tell you how many times I've had people cross the street to the other sidewalk just because they had it set in their heads my dog was vicious. I just laugh every time that happened.

The way I look at it, I could give 2 shits about what anyone thinks. I've learned to live with all the prejudice. Pointless to preach to ignorant people. I know my dog, I train my dog, and in the end my dogs always know what I expect of them. Just the other day, a beagle jumped towards my new APBT pup with teeth exposed and all he did was sit there and gave the beagle the "WTF?" head tilt. I gave the owner, who CLEARLY didnt have control aside from tugging back at the leash(a HUGE no-no), the massive stink eye and relocated my puppy immediately.

BREEDERS also need to be responsible. Backyard breeders who whore out their males/females creating severely inbred litters in the HUNDREDS per year are only in it for a quick buck are no better than those who are cruel to dogs. A great example would be 80-90% of "American Bully" backyard breeders. Google it, it's GROSS what these bastards call "grand champions" and they are at the edge of dying from just walking! The point of being a breeder is to participate in making the breed better through selective and responsible breeding practices. Responsible breeding = quality offspring = (in theory) a dog with great health, drive, & a great temperament base for training.

My word of advice for people looking for a new puppy of a "taboo" breed is to do TONS of research before making your purchase. Knowing your responsibilities socially on top being a a good dog owner is crucial. I would run far far away from "pet store" puppies---your better alternative at that point is to adopt a puppy from the closest humane society.

Persecute irresponsible owners, not the breed.

This is my good friend Mike Jones who runs Primal Canine training center in San Jose, CA. Both of his personal pitbulls were adopted from the pound. Anyone who lives in the area, I highly recommend taking his classes!

Its was actually really easy.... he didnt care much for the stitches...from time to time he tried to scratch to but will stop as soon as i repremend him and forget about it. Not once he used a cone...... My female on the other hand was a handful, she needed the collar the whole 2 weeks... she would charge against the wall trying to get the collar off... SMH
I was truly surprised her ears came looking good...

Anyone have any recommendations for a dog pack? My Anatolian has far outgrown his current one. It would be for hiking/ backpacking so he can hump his own water and food. I was thinking this one. It has good reviews on Amazon.

    Thoughts or recommendations?

I have a Ruffwear pack for Booker, no complaints with it. I tried a few on him at REI. On some the load was too far back on his ribcage, or too low on his body, or it was too close to his elbow, etc etc.

Anyway, someone on here posted about trying to get their pit bull to pass the AKC CGC? I have some tips, only because I've been lucky enough to work with some great trainers. If you'd like, you can PM me and let me know which exercise/s of the test are tricky and hopefully I can be helpful. Then if you are interested, you can do competitive obedience, Rally, etc. You don't need papers to compete in AKC as long as your dog is fixed, and it's actually pretty fun, in a nerdy way. Some people are REALLY into it, as with anything. Hehe.

Here's a pic from this afternoon's trail run. My boy's getting more silver on his muzzle. Hate seeing it. :(

I was the one that mentioned the CGC. It wasn't that I was trying to pass cgc, it was that I never got around to doing the test. At the time, it was more important for me to get her training down than a piece of paper. My apbt was supplemented with multiple sessions from trainers who worked closely with akc CGC people so I had no doubt she would've passed if I got around to doing it. Might do this with my newest apbt pup, however.

    Booker the looker! :)

Ah! Cool. Your pup is soooooooo cute. The AKC has a new program now, like within the last year or two I think? It's called STAR Puppy. It's super fun to watch those classes and see how each puppy learns differently, um, plus of course puppies are adorable. Heheh.

Here's some more info if you'd like.

(And yay-- Tacoma owners are good pit bull owners!)
