Sorry if this has been asked -did a search but didn't find much.

Now this may be normal and I don't know it, but when I'm driving if I let off the gas at say 45mhp it'll slow quickly to 35ish. is this normal? I'm use to my old Diesel 3/4 ton where it would coast much further and faster. (and that was on some BFG A/Ts not the stock sport tires)

I tried this in 4 wheel, 2 wheel with trac control on and off and all did the same- when in nutural it was a bit better but still not quite what i'm use to.

    thanks for you help guys

I don't remember what it is but it's something that keeps it in gear and it automatically engine brakes or something liike that. Mine's always done it...so has my uncle's

Yea now that i think about it. it feels almost like my old jake break. just really catches me off guard - i find myself having to "drive" deeper into stops where i use to coast up to lights, stop signs ect more. Is there anyway to disable this that anyone knows of?

Not sure, I don't mind it. Not as much wear on the brakes.

i think it might be called like the transmission kick down or something....on my firsgen i have a cable on the throttle body that connects to the trans and alows for engine braking....may be wrong but i am positive that wire goes to the trans.

Same here. The 2gens are programmed to down shift when you let off the gas. You would have to reprogram to change that.

Brake pads EVERY YEAR = WAY WAY WAY LESS than transmission repairs. ;)

Just unhook the battery for an hour and then see if it's normal. ;)

Its the transmission engine braking. These transmissions were originally designed for toyotas small v8's. They have some smart shift program that downshifts when you let off. I tried to add a video from toyota but their website is all changed up and I don't know where to find the video anymore. If you want to coast more just keep your foot slightly on the accelerator.

As for brake pads are cheaper than transmission repairs, very true, but your not going to have to replace your transmission when it is doing something it was designed to do.

Yet mine no longer does it after unhooking the battery. hmmm
After seeing their vid, can you decifer what possible benefit derives from having the transmission downshift while the vehicle is coasting?
Aside from using more gas that is.
