Just wondering from those of you who have replaced the rear axle seals on your Tacoma if you replaced the retainer rings as well? I'm not sure how you would determine if these would require replacement.
    Any information appreciated.

I replaced the rear seals about a year ago but used the original rings. Im assuming that if they were loose or damaged in any way they would need replacing, otherwise Im sure its fine.

If they're loose you have bigger problems. If there are any knicks or scrapes where the seal rides or if it's cut too deep of a groove it will need replaced. However, I wouldn't replace it unless it keeps leaking as it's not a very easy job. Mine didn't even really have a groove cut into them with 60k miles on the truck so I'd assume they're probably good the life of the truck or at least until you do your wheel bearings. So really only if there are any knicks or dings etc where the seal rides.

    This might help?

I replaced both rear axle seals and reused the retainer rings. Been fine for almost a year now
