As part of an effort to fix a drive line rattle issue with my 2007 standard cab the dealer flipped the rear drive shaft 180 degrees so that the narrower section with the rubber boot is now bolted to the rear differential. Is this OK?? Seems like an odd thing to do.

    Sounds like the slip yoke.

If you google Tacoma slip yoke and hit images, you'll see majority of the slip yokes are mounted on the diff side. My old 96 was like that.

    Did it fix the problem?

    Not really.

I was wondering whether I should bring it back and ask them to flip the drive shaft back to the stock orientation.

If it didn't fix the vib issue I'd have the dealer flip it back to stock, I'm anal about my rig and all I would see would be more possiblity to get gunk from the road stuck in it or worse tear the rubber boot etc etc.

    Thanks,

    Brett

Did you just buy the truck? Did it have the vibe when you test drove it?

Or have you owned the truck for a while and just started getting vibes?

if under warranty the dealer should replace the ds due to play in the slipyoke, or even grease the current slipyoke at least. greasing is a temp fix, replacing is also temp, had mine greased, was good/better after, then replaced and within 3000miles is back to grinding. i had flipped it originally and this worked for a while then the noise was back. tom woods ds is the real solution.
