285/75-16 vs 265/75-16

i currently have 285/75 nitto on my taco. recently found out that my tires are "chopped". was advised that it was due to wrong tire size. also possibly due to lack of regular tire rotation. discount tire as an example does not show this size as an option for our trucks. why is this??? how would the 265 look??

 

265 are the stock size tire, chopped tires are not because they are the wrong size

 

What do you mean by "chopped"? Are you talking about what most call "cupping" on your front tires? (wavy type wearing). Or, are your tires wearing uneven on one side? Either way, did you get an alignment on your truck after your lift? If not, that is why you have uneven wearing on your tires. First thing you need to do after a lift is take it to the alignment shop. When you lift it you change the factory camber, etc. and need to get it set back to spec. If your tires are still wearing uneven you should check your idler arm and tie rod ends for excessive play, cause they could cause your tires to wear uneven.

yes the truck was aligned and the wear was cupped and irregular. i have not rotated with every oil change, maybe every 2nd or third.

do you have a lift?

 

I have a 2.25" spacer on front.

 

you dont need a lift, but 265 is the biggest on stock you can have

 

3" lift with stock uca's = not aligned to spec = irregular tire wear, also check you tire pressure

 

I like the look of the 285's, I think if I were to get new tires I'd get 285/70's. I have 265/75 right now, same width as stock, but they're a little taller. My stock wheels were 265/75-16's.

While I'm telling you that I would prefer to go bigger, it's ust "because". I have never found myself in a predicament and said "Man if I had 285's I could get through this!" LOL
