So i have been looking at regearing. Now, since our TRD trucks have a rear diff lock, why do people who regear still purchase say an ARB or something locker? Can we not just retain the rear diff lock that is electronic from the factory when regearing or am I missing something here?

they probably put the ARB locker up front. that way both axles can be locked. It makes sense if you got to open the diff up anyway. that's what I would do.

im looking at ordering the assembled parts and doing myself. If I wanted to go 4.88 do I need a different housing? I saw something on ECGS about a different carrier for certain gears.

You are auto v6 so if you want to go to 4.88 you need new carrier for the front...unless of course you choose to install ARB then they will get you ARB for gears 3.90 and up

    what about for the rear?

Why would running ARB on the front or not make a difference of if you need new carrier or not?

rear is build little different so it will take lower (higher number) gears.
Front has carrier that either takes 3.90 and down or 3.90 and up. So if you have currently 3.73 gears (auto, V6) then you need new carrier for 4.88. However ARB replaces carrier and there are two ARB's one for gears lower than 3.90 and one for gears higher than 3.90. So if instead buying new carrier for gears above 3.90 you buy ARB for gears 3.90 you are set. I think carrier is 100$+ dollars if you have money to spare you better off getting ARB and be done with it.

    thanks for your response BlueT.

So from the factory there is nothing on the truck for locking front? What are the downsides to just going with a regular 3.90 carrier instead of a ARB?
