Ok so I am a dumb ass but what is the reason to have a short shifter? Does it serve any function. Is the shift throw shorter or what?

quicker shifts. the pull from 1 to 2 is isn't as long. go take a look at a sports car shifter and compare that to our shifters.

Also good for off road, heavy clutch , low gears, short shift... Easy crawl

LOL.. love this bs quote...The desired effect of a short shifter is to reduce the distance your hand needs to move to engage the next gear, thus reducing the amount of time spent shifting, reducing wasted time between shifts, and resulting in improved performance"

I just hate wasting all that time shifting.....

Short throw shifters were invented back in the day for drag racing - when 'wasted time' shifting had some real impact. Usefulness for street applications? Not so much. It's just for the 'cool' factor.

I see you are in Alberta. I went to a local dealership here in Ottawa and the parts counter guy told me that the TRD short shifter for the Tacoma was not available in Canada because he didn't have a listing for it, only the TRD supercharger. I figure that I will order a TRD SS online anyway but I wanted to get a local price to use as a baseline for online shopping. Interesting that you can get a TRD SS from a dealer in Alberta, I will try another local dealer.
