    Hello

I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma and just bought a used Retrax cover which looks amazing. My tailgate has the backup camera installed but no lock so it would be very easy for someone to steal the retrax cover. Pop & Lock is the only vendor I can find that makes a lock but so many people say it is cheap and can break easy.

I'm looking for another way to keep the tailgate locked other than the pop & lock. Any Suggestions?

    Thanks

    Max

Check out dynolock. I installed one on my 2005 dclb with no problems and really liked it. It taps into the power door locks, meaning it can be used with the key fob. A very cool mod, and quality parts. Install was reasonably easy and I called for assistance, Jim was super helpful in making sure I had everything right. I chose this over pop n lock because it seemed like a cleaner install and more durable. Hard to break into because all the parts are internal.

Good luck in finding the right product for you. Link below.

I have a dynolock on mine, but there's no manual key hole. So if for some reason you lose power to it, you may or may not be stuck. Up to you, but I really like mine.

I just installed the Pop & Lock 8521 a month ago. It's the powered version that taps into the auto door locks. It seemed like good quality and I'm very satisfied with it.

I have been running the dynolock power tailgate lock for about a year now with no issues. Works just fine.

I have had great luck with my popnlock...the real one. Here is the story and this may have occurred to others.

I bought a pop n lock off Amazon.com and it was shipped by Amazon. It failed in about 6 months so I called popnlock to have it warrantied. They were great and sent out a new solenoid the same day. However, it was different than what was in the truck. After calling popnlock again, they told me that I had bought a knock off through Amazon and they have run in to this before (we exchanged pics to confirm). While on the phone right then, I ordered a lock DIRECTLY from popnlock and it has been working for almost 3 years now without problem.

Moral of the story, dont order your popnlock from Amazon

I never heard of retrax, that's a really nice cover, it's similar to the roll n lock, i had a roll n lock and i liked it, i just didn't like the soft vinyl covering, retrax seems better! The roll n lock used to lock directly to the tailgate, so a tailgate lock wasn't necessary, i guess this one don't? That would be the only drawback! I just bought a fold a cover about a month ago, otherwise i would consider this. The fold a cover has been good to me though, no regrets! Anyway sorry for ramblin', nice cover!

I wanted to take a few moments to thank everyone who responded to my post. Last night I stopped by by local Toyota dealer to see what goodies they had in stock and they had the pop and lock for my truck so I went ahead and picked one up. I could have saved $20 if I had ordered it on line but sometimes convenience is nice.

The whole install took less than 30 minutes and was very straight forward with the hardest parts being how to figuring out how to detach the wiring harness from the backup camera and then getting the backup camera secured in the pop and lock bracket that attaches to the mechanism.

As mentioned, there was no change in functionality of moving the camera and the pop and lock handle feels solid and works well. I also picked up a cargo bag $30.00 and now have a secure way to toss some small items into the trunk.

    Thank you all for responding

    Max
