I'm a victim of identity theft!

This is the second time in my life that I've been attacked! This morning I received an email saying my checking account had been over drafted. I immediately checked my account from my phone, and sure enough, $0.00 in my checking,, and someone/something of the name "Viva Gr Marousi" was the one who took the money. Lucky me, I'm poor, and only had $167 for them to take. I called Wells Fargo, and they told me my account had been locked due to suspicious behavior (Yay!), and that I will be refunded the money within 10 days. Also, they put out a fraud alert on my account. Five different places had tried to take out over $900 before the $167 was taken out, but they were all declined (yeah, because I'm broke).



Long story short, a working man can't have anything between taxes and thieves. . .




edit: The first time identity theft got me was when I was four years old. Someone opened a Chase credit card in my name. I didn't find out until a couple years ago when I checked my credit score.

 

if i was a victim of identity theft i would at least have a reason for having shitty credit. instead, im just bad at paying bills.

 

That sucks, OP. I hope they catch the bastard, and may it never happen again. Stuff like this just goes to show how effed-up this world is. People will do anything to get what they want, even if it means making someone else lose everything. I'm glad it didn't get to that point for you- glad you caught it relatively early on.

 

Man, glad it's getting worked out. A few weeks ago a dope head stole my boyfriend's truck and got all our debit cards, credit cards, and checks.

They got $800 out of my account before my bank flagged it and called me to confirm. They tried another $1000 on my debit card and $800 on my credit card that were all declined. Bank had the money back within a few days, and got a new debit card to me ASAP but in the meantime I had no access to any money. What a hassle. No gas, no groceries.
