Hey there members, I'm about to get the truck soon. Though I'm debating if I should get the car alarm system installed. Anybody have pros & cons about them? Or suggest an aftermarket alarm system.
I believe the dealer offer me $210 for the alarm system.

I am pretty sure I don't like mine. My window sticker said it had the factory "VIP" supplemental system.. then the dealer installed some aftermarket thing that sets the alarm if I lock the doors which means if I do ANYTHING it sets off the alarm even while I'm in the truck. I think I got hosed by paying for it.. they offered to remove it, but for the most part the dealer installed alarms are just a way to increase their profit margin.

If you want a good alarm, I'm sure there are some out there. I had to throw 50# bags into the bed of my truck before the shock sensor noticed and did a little triple honk and nothing else. Useless..

You're in the Southeast. Most likely Gulf States Toyota.

Pay the dealer for the RS3000/3200/3400 (whatever they're at now).
Do NOT pay the dealer for the "dealer installed" or "Gulf States installed" alarm, which is likely just a cheap OTC unit from Audiovox.

Be careful... Gulf States Toyota pulls a lot of shenanigans with "factory options".

    ^^^^^This.

I doubt any car thief has ever had a problem with any of these cheap dealer installed supplemental systems. The "Karr" engine immobilizer is such a joke. They charge hundreds to have a removable "Chip" which is a plastic key with a jumper from one spot to another. When you don't pay the $$ they "disable" the system by putting in the same chip (jumper) without the handle. lol

A 1" wire will do the same thing and I think a car thief knows that.

Hmmm....I'll look into that. I doubt they were offering me the "VIP RS3200" but I'll make sure to look into it. And yea, I know they were pulling my leg with factory options that weren't even on the truck. Though, apparently mine is waiting to get delivered to the dealer.

Though what other good brand of aftermarket alarms out there?
I heard of Clifford, Ungo, Viper etc....
