Hey guys. I want to put leds inthe foot wells on my truck but don't know what capasitors and resistors to put on the wire. I don't know the math equations to be able to solve this problem. What I want is to have 5 leds on each side and wire it off the fuse box if possible( don't know if I can do that rather) or off the battery which I know how to do. I can get the numbers that you need but I don't know what all is needed for this. If you can help thank you very much!!!

digging back through my engineering classes you need to know a few things.

Turn on current for the LED
    Ohms law V(voltage) = I(current) * R(Resistance)
since you have turn on current, and voltage (12v) plug that into the equation and solve for R.

Also check how much power (watts) will be dissipated though the circuit, and make sure you get one that is rated for that amount of power.

    P(power) = V(voltage) * I(current)

Ok I understand but what would the # be for the current?

See above^ you don't need a capasitor just a resistor.

It should be on the spec sheet for the led.

You don't need capacitors with LED's, they are just like a light bulb but must be put in with the correct polarity in a D.C. circuit.

If you are tapping off of 12 volts, find out what each LED is rated at and if you put them in series, they become additive. For instance if an LED works at 1.5 volts and you put 6 in series, you have 9 volts across them and all you have to do is drop another 3 volts with the resistor.

You can get a variable resistor from a low resistance (maybe even zero ohms) up to about 3,000 ohms and starting at full resistance dial down from there until you either get to the rated voltage across each LED or a lesser voltage that dims the LEDs to your liking.

    This.

Just get something prewired from there, or Autozone.
If you try to DIY from discreet components, your lack of knowledge on the subject will at best result in something that doesn't work, and at worst, result in a hot resistor and a fire under your dash.

Really, what's the worst that could happen.

See but those are like 70 bucks for 2 strips which in outrageously expensive. Also there is no place to mount those so I have to make them my self.

Thank you for the people who helps on the math and resistor side tho!!!
