I think it is important to distinguish between snorkels designed for fording and those that are only for filtration.

There are very few stock vehicles that will continue to run in hood-depth water, even with a watertight snorkel. Adding a snorkel does nothing to protect the hundreds of non-waterproof electrical connections in the engine bay and behind the dash. Mall parking lot fording is probably OK. Caveat emptor.

Systems that provide only pre-filtration commonly stick through the hood, but don't really have to. Donaldson makes inline pre-filters in both horizontal and vertical configurations that will fit under the hood of many vehicles. Their competitors probably have similar products. These systems are NOT watertight, and do not support fording water deeper than their installed height.

If you think that an air stack coming through the hood "looks cool," that's OK. Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that. It CAN be done while maintaining a stock appearance, and I would rather do that than poke a hole in my hood.

It is hideous, so I made it even more so. :D

How about some symmetry? This way the drivers vision is equally blocked on both sides, so maybe less distracting.

Fail. All of them. Fail. Looks like a capped bathroom vent on the roof of a house.

No, not at all. Some are pretty sleek looking and some of the home made ones do not change the exterior at all.

Why stop there? Extend them up to the top of the safari platform and give another one so the driver can breath and you can ride fully submerged all the time! Maybe add a periscope? lol
