Chest crushing bass in a DC, possible?

Right now I'm running a single JL 10 3v3 2ohm sub in my truck. Don't get me wrong, it puts out the bass, but I'm looking for something more. Can I get more by adding a sub and really get the SPL going, or am I looking for a sub with greater excursion than the 14mm of the JL? Right now I have an Alpine PDX-M6 running the JL, and it's pretty sweet, but there's always room for more, right?

Anyone running Sundown Audio gear? I'm interested in the SD-2 series subs.

 

Well, after much research, talking to the guys at Sundown, they've convinced me to go for the SD-2 subs. I'm getting 2 and a new box made by supercrewsound. Should be a couple weeks, and we'll see what we get.

Sweet, what kind of bass are you getting? Just a solid thump, or does it make the hairs on your neck stand up? If you know what I mean.

 

Sd-2's are nice, but nowhere near 'chest crushing bass'

If you fit 3 of them that's about the most bass you will get behind the seats.

Either way, you can't go wrong with SD subs.

 

Okay, maybe not chest crushing, but hopefully more than I'm getting with my single JL right now. I'm hoping for 135db or so, right now I'm around 120.

 

It hits hard and will make your shirt vibrate a little. Not bad for one 10. Two 10s will be more than enough.

You are hitting 135db with one 10? How many watts are going to it?

No, not 135. I'm hitting around 120 with 600w going to the JL. Not bad, but there's always room for improvement. Without walling the back of the truck, I'm looking for more. With two SD subs getting 600w each, I should get closer to my goal of 135.

 

Or 1 SD sub in customer ported box might do the trick as well.

 

I got one 15 and 2500 watts in my dc. its pretty loud... definitely makes me eyes shake when turned up. I sacrificed 1/3 of my backseat but I don't take passengers so wgaf!

 

I was going to ask how you ended up fitting a 15" back there.. What sub/amp are you using? Got pics?

its an audioque hdc15 paired with a audioque 2500w amp. they changed there brand name of subs to sound qube, there subs are pretty tough and can take a beating.

 

These pics I wanna see. A 15" sub in a DC. And you say your feeding it 2500W. I wonder if I'm going to have to rethink my amp setup for more power.

 

The box on the right is the one in my truck. Its made of birch so its alot lighter than the typical particleboard on the left. The one on the left use to be in my old tundra behind the drivers seat as well. If i had to guess the one in my truck is around 3.5 or 4 cubic ft.



Carpeted the box and but it in with the port closet to the back window. with the window rolled down you can see just the top of it. But i usually dont roll it down, its alot louder with just the front windows rolled down.



This is what it looks like from drivers seat. I got it perfectly to where i sit how i like to in the truck. Im in the process of putting lift and tires and wheels on the truck, thats why its a hot mess in there



Pic from the little back window. The amp is mounted on the back of the box using 2 screws. 0 guage power wire running it from the hole on the drivers side through the center console, i had to take the drivers seat out and run it.



And theres the sub. Again... my truck is full of crap right now.

I did it pretty simple, im not very savy when it comes to making stuff look pretty.... It took about 5 hours combined for me to install the Deck and run the wire. and put the sub in... my buddy is a very skilled box builder so he helped me out with that one. The sub is wired at 1 ohm so its drawing just about all the power it can.... since i dont have an upgraded alternator or another battery the sub is kinda underpowered but still plenty loud. And not to mention, a Doubel cab doesnt really have alot of air in the cabin to move around so its not living up to its full potential. but again, im pretty satisfied with it....

It takes 5 min to take out so my back seat is still useable. One more person can fit on the passenger side comfortably but honestly i dont take people around too much anyway. If you want more pics i can take some more.

 

^ I'm doing the same type of setup with my Orion HCCA 15. Just the box for the HCCA is 4.5ft^3 per sub so it's going to fill the entire back seat area. Awesome tho, I'd love to hear it. Next time I'm in Alabama I'll hit you up and see if we can meet up.

Now fit that sub behind the rear seats!

that site has prolly the lowest price for flexible wire ive seen around. and it can handle the power going through it... i wouldnt put any smaller wire due to the amount of power that that amp is drawing.

No need on the video, they are pointless as the mic can't handle the sound output anyways. If you have a DB meter I'd rather see how many DB's your hitting vs your mirrors shaking.

 

Well, after living with the Sundown subs for a week, I've given up on my current amp situation. I was thinking 600w to each sub would be enough, but when you have the gains maxxed out, it's time for something new. I'm thinking of matching the subs up with a Sundown amp. We'll see.
