I was told that my tacoma 4 cylinder would handle a boat up to 3600 lbs. It wouldn't and I now find that after hauling it one time(app 3000lbs) it turns out I broke both rear springs. Does the V6 have a stronger suspension system or if I get a V6 am I going to have the same problem?

The v6 can handle approx 6500lbs depending on your combination

How much tongue weight is there on the hitch? You should be @ 7-10% of the total load(boat AND trailer), i.e. 252-360 lbs on the trailer hitch.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
The stock springs in all these trucks sucks dick. Get the TSB or some other aftermarket leafpack and you will be fine.

to answer your question, the v6 and 4cyl have the same weak suspensions when comparing the same years i believe.

so, with that in mind, im guessing them to be rated for the same or very similar tongue weight, 500lbs for my v6 iirc. i doubt your boat was more than that.

so, the right thing to do (im praying your under warranty) is have them replaced asap with the tsb spring in addition.

if your no longer under warranty, pat yourself on the back cause your on the way to getting much better leaf-packs for the rear end. im a big supporter of Toyota factory parts, aside from the tires and those awful leaf springs.

did your springs break at the ends, or closer to the middle?
