Good to know there's a TSB, but the pic posted in the first post on the thread shows for a 2WD. Mine's a 4X4.

I'm taking mine in on Thursday (first day I have time) for the following:

    - shudder on takeoff
    - driveline vibe at about 45 mph
    - rattle behind the radio
    - screech from windshield
    - creaky clutch pedal

The driveline vibe is interesting. Just to see, I rotated my carrier bearing 180 degrees and the vibration became intermittent and far less noticeable. Because of that, I agree with the idea that shimming the axle to reduce driveshaft angles should reduce or eliminate the vibration.

But what's also very interesting is the slip yoke just aft of the carrier bearing. If I grab the driveshaft in one hand and the slip yoke in the other, then twist, I get definite slop between the two...I can hear a small clunk and I can feel definite rotational movement between the two.

Someone mentioned a transmission mount replacement as part of a TSB...where is that? Since day one, I've believed that the shudder on takeoff feels like a soft or flexing transmission mount, or maybe soft motor mounts. Also, I've been hunting around the net and haven't found the driveline vibe TSB. Having both of those in hand when I go to the dealer would be handy.

I also tend to think that the driveline vibe at speed and the shudder at takeoff are related. I've got nothing to support this other than conjecture, but to me it makes sense that they would play off of one another. Example: the combination of too sharp of driveshaft angles in combination with a flexing transmission or motor mount could exacerbate each issue.

I guess I'll find out more late this coming week after leaving the truck at the dealership.

The tsb you are looking for is 0249-12 which will include replacement of the trans mount and rear leaf springs. May also add a steering wheel damper if the problem persist after replacing the mount and leaf springs as the 1st step

OP were you ever able to get rid of the vibrations/ shudder? Did the tsb help? What about the whining while coasting at highway speeds? My 2013 DCLB is going to the dealer this sat for the driveline vibration tsb but I still dont know what to tell them about the whirling highway noise...

Man, you guys must have got the bad trucks. I've had three Toyo trucks since 1990 and never took any of them back to the dealer. I must have got the good ones, but I suppose if you build a million trucks a year someone is gonna get a bad one built by some assembly line guys on a hangover after a party. I see all these complaints, but I've put 12k miles on this 2012 in 9 months in all kinds of conditions and it's fine with me. "whirling noise when coasting at highway speeds"? Really? You hear a whirling noise at highway speeds, what a surprise.

This is a good example. I have the exact same truck, but with 12k miles on it I notice no problems and believe me I notice problems when they actually exist. I've had this truck up and down rocky trails, up to 100 mph on the freeway, through snow drifts, on ice, just about every imaginable condition and no problems. You guys that are complaining must have got the few bad ones.

My 12 AC OR has the creaky clutch pedal, 20-25 shudder, squeak/vibration above the drivers left shoulder in the window door jamb, chatter when braking/rolling to a stop, kinda feels like warped rotors butt it will also chatter when the brakes aren't applied when slowing, and a really soft set of rear leafs. But damn it I still love this truck.

Regardless, I like mine too but maybe I would love it if it didnt have all these issues.
I would even trade it in for a 13' model if they didnt have the same issues Im experiencing... but thats not the case

Just moved, and have a service appointment on Monday with a different dealer. First dealer only replaced the clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder and said they didn't notice any other problems that I mentioned. Clutch pedal creak is back...if they replace the master cylinder & clutch pedal assembly again, this will be the third master cylinder in the vehicle within 6000 miles. Got a video of the windshield screeching, so hopefully they can fix that. Clattering sound at the rear end has started since my last post and has gotten very noticeable while clutch is in or in neutral coasting and you hit a bump...sounds like my brother's old '73 chevy pickup with loose leaf springs and shocks.

Overall I really do like the truck. However I am seriously disappointed by Toyota's quality...this vehicle has by far more problems than I've ever had on any new vehicle. I absolutely baby the vehicle...no beating on it at all...just gentle driving.

Going out today to look at vehicles with my dad for him, but I'll also be looking for myself. I do not want to have to replace the master cylinder every 2000-3000 miles, and if the rear end rattles continue to worsen at their current rate, I expect the driveline & rear end of the truck to fall out on the pavement soon. I really, really wish JD Power would send me a survey.

Well I am finally having the dealership do something about that whining/whirling/howling noise while coasting/ decelerating between the speeds of 55 and 65. I originally brought the truck in to have them repair a leaky door seal and while they were road testing the truck, they heard the whining noise and asked me about it. The dealership has also involved a field technician who has also acknowledged the noise, and has recommended they replace the rear differential. So they will be doing that today, I'll let you guys know if it fixes it, I sure hope it does.

Did the rear diff replacement fix it? Mines in right now for the same problem but the just keep saying its wind leaks and doing pointless replacements

It helped. There is still a noise there but it's very slight. If I had got it that way from the dealership I probably wouldn't have ever noticed it.

I have the shudder from about 20-30 mph then gone, and the brake squeal in reverse on my 2013 dbl cab. I just ignore it. But at 75 mph i get an ugly whirr sound on the front psgr side, just wind noise but from what! Annoying as shit since speed limits here are 75 most places! Oh well, i slow to 70 and its gone!
