    Ok so:

Just bought my 09, then a few days later found out about the TSB.

    In a word: shit.

I have an appointment with my dealer to get my Big Brake package installed on the 27th. The dealer is 1.5 hours from where I live. I would rather not make many trips there to dicker over the TSB since I am technically not covered as an 09 and have no ground to stand on.

If I were to request that they do the 4 leaf pack (I already have TRD Offroad so everything else is up to snuff) as a service install that I pay for, what is the approximate cost I should be expecting, parts and labor, out the door?

I am willing to pay a fair price to have to truck completed, done, and ready to use the right way without 3 or 4 trips to/from the dealer and who knows how many calls to Toyota customer service. I'm just not willing to pay anything exorbitant or ridiculous.

Also, do the entire three leaf packs have to be swapped, or can they just add a leaf? It seems like AALing would be a lot less expensive.

    To break it down:

Rear leaf TSB - if I wanted to pay to have it done, how much am I staring at?

I think it's a whole new leaf pack, plus shackles and other bits. I would be suprised if it was less than a grand.

Invoices given to folks are records of work billed the job @ around 1600. Parts and labor I believe. It's a warranty item-I'd say it's worth working to get them to do it under warranty and not paying for it.

They replace the entire leaf pack- you can put an AAL in on your own- you won't get a "Your truck will now hold X lbs" type of statement from the manufacturer.

Hey man don't pay for it. I had my 09 done and it is a warranty issue just call toyota and complain about. I just gave them my VIN # and the part #'s off my truck which were on the TSB and they did it without any questions

Deep breath everybody - this is strictly a fact finding mission.

I understand how paying for it out of pocket would undermine the "get 09s on the TSB" movement and I'm in no hurry to do so. I'm definitely going to call Toyo cust. service and see if I can get the TSB done on Toyota's dime (they should've built the damn things right anyway).

This was just a potential plan B which is now pretty well quashed. I was willing to pay, if need be, for two leafs and labor to put them in. I'm not dumping thousands into something that honestly should've been right in the first place.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...

they dont just put in an AAL, they replace both entire leaf packs. thats why the cost is so high. if they wont do it and u need the lift soon, there are much better options out there than the tsb springs and cheaper

I'm not under any time pressure.

However, I want a damn truck that lives up to its specs. I paid for it.

I agree with getting it done under warranty. It's worth the hassle. Got mine done and the invoice was about $1700. I had 1st class service and was treated as if it was a pleasure for the dealer to correct the issue. They even gave me a loaner car in the mean time. Germains Toyota in Naples,FL were awesome. I bought my truck out of state they still gave me excellent service. It's not worth paying out of pocket when you can get it done under warranty. Good luck.

Well, called Toyo and told them about the issue I was having - and I do have it apparently...I helped a friend move some furniture from one apt. to another over the weekend and the speed bumps in the parking lot were murder!

Anyway, they opened a case number and told me to take it by a dealer to have it looked at. The local Toyo dealership is horrible, so I called the one I bought from originally and was straight up with the lady on the phone...told her I have this issue, that I had researched it online and found out about the TSB, and that my VIN# and Part #s match but the model year is '09, politely asked if anything could be done or if I was out of luck.

She replied that the truck should be eligible as long as the VIN# was in the grouping on the TSB, which it is. She said was going to look into it and still had to get it approved by Toyota, but would push for it and call me back tomorrow, took my contact information and was generally very helpful.

Hopefully she'll be calling me back with good news. I have to make a trip back to this dealer in the near future to have my Big Brake package put on, and it would be awesome if they could address this at the same time and save everyone some time and scheduling hassle.

    Fingers crossed!

Working with this dealership really has been a pleasure though. I have taken the tactic of letting them know that I am an informed consumer up front every time and that if they will not waste my time, I will not waste their time. So far, they've been fair to me and I've done the same to them. Hope it continues here.

Cox Toyota in Burlington, NC if anyone was wondering.
