Not sure if this post will petain to the US dealerships, it may be Canada specific. Not sure.

The stealership here offers three add-on products for new vehicles to slow rust down.

1 - Undercoating the chassis at the dealer. Gives a ten year perforation warranty on the frame only. Costs $500. This is the one I'm considering.

2 - Electronic module with sacrificial anode to protect the body. $600!

3 - Some sort of body sealer, (sounds like a krown knock off) that they spray inside the body panels, $500!

I'm considering number 1. I may end up doing ten years in this vehicle. Not likely more than that though. I read lots about Fluid Film / Krown / simple rustoleum paint as needed etc... and they all have downsides too (although $500 isnt one of them!)

I don't really want to get into a debate on all the pros and cons of all the different methods of keeping rust away, there is already plenty of reading on that already.

I just wondered if anyone had opted for the "Toyota" undercoating and how well is it holding up a few years down the road? I suspect it will be thick, and if it starts to fail it will trap water behind it.
