As someone who has taken OC, taser probes, and taser drive stuns...the OC is last on my list of things ill volunteer to experience again

And I believe someone mentioned a guarantee that you're going down if you get hit with the probes...not true

Nothing is 100% effective on everyone 100% of the time

I've seen people force themselves to walk and pull out taser probes, and I've seen guys take spray to the eyes and open them and look at us and laugh

Get you a MK-4 live OC pepper spray. The shit hurts so damn bad feels like your face is in lava. Anything above 10% is killer.

That is a very good point. He could have removed that possible situation from the equasion if you had left the gun in its holster and drenched the pup with pepper juice and he wouldn't step out of line the next time he passed by you
    that's a fact jack!!

Okay, self-defense isn't just limited to a threat to your life. It also includes serious injury. The germ-filled teeth of an animal chewing on your body well fits into that category. Nobody has an obligation to just stand there and get mauled by someone's pet simply because that pet owner wanted to let it run free in a park. Likewise, nobody has an obligation to use pepper spray or similar in the hopes that animal will go away and not hurt them. An uncontrolled animal (pet or otherwise) charging at you anywhere is a serious threat which richly deserves a serious response.

Hell just get a big pig sticker and when the dog or bad guy is on you before you can pull your side arm stick the damn thing in it or the bad guy and be done. I had to kill a dog that was eating my ASS UP while being in my wheelchair. I am not gonna be a chew toy or lunch for no animal.

I just watched the movie Cloud Atlas. Brilliant movie. When Hugo Weaving shot the Highland Terrier that was barking at him, I couldn't help but think about OP.

bean bags with a 12 gauge delivery system... hmmmm bean bags thru a shotgun, given the choice with consideration for pain inflicted, I'd take a slug over a bean bag, at least your dead & the pain stops.....:notsure:

"Less lethal" ammunition is stupid for civilian use.
Even when LEOs use it, they have fully armed support backing them up.

Pop someone with a bean bag and if it doesn't stop them, you've got a BIG problem.
You are going to be lucky to get a 2nd shot, and you definitely won't have time to load the buckshot that you should have been carrying in the first place.

No respect for a man who drinks to nearly 0.20, drives his Porsche at 120+, and kills himself and his friend when he wraps it around a tree at the same spot in the road where he had already rolled one car.

Mixed feelings about the Hartwell family going after the estate... Hartwell was just as much at fault as Dunn.

Very good point, and even then police only use LTL when they don't feel an immediate threat to themselves.

I sorta turn my PC off over the weekends. I did read every ones responses. Some made me laugh and some made me cry.

I would like to here your situation. It ls all about compare and contrast.

I would like a treat you to a range day and a beer if you ever find your self in AZ.

This is one of the best responses. There are too many people that do not know what "Stand your ground" is.

    make that 2 beers.

I never suggested running from the dog. In fact, I suggested the opposite, as running would trigger a chase instinct.

Nor did I suggest cowering. But assuming a dismissive posture (as opposed to an aggressive one) would possibly have put the dog at ease. If not, no change in scenario.

I absolutely agree that an animal should never be off leash outside of designated off-leash areas, and have stated so many times, in this thread even. And for all the reasons you bring up. I don't excuse the owner of this dog for having it off the leash, and if it HAD been killed, the OP would have been within his rights.

But in this situation, stand your ground is a cop-out. It is "Stand Your Ground," not "Charge Into the Confrontation," and my whole argument is that by exercising a little mental acumen as opposed to assuming the attitude of "fuck you, I'm going to do what I do and if I have to plug your pooch then so be it," then maybe the OP wouldn't have needed to draw his weapon. Is that a certainty? Of course not.

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you are right to do it.

    Brain power > Firepower.

    So no, I'm not kidding.

(and for what it's worth, Specalt, I still think you handled yourself admirably -- I'm just making the argument for increased reliance on thought process)
