Just got my DCSB and I'm looking to get a cargo net to cover the bed. I'm having trouble deciding between the Toyota OEM short bed net that looks to be a stiffer nylon grid vs the several after market varieties that are bungee cord style.

I have the short bed and it looks like many of the bungee cargo nets don't come that small, so I'm worried about it being too loose and being more of a problem.

The vision I have is that this is securing camping gear, etc, nothing too large.

Anyone have pref one way or the other?

Why don't you just secure it to your bed rails and your hooks towards the back of the truck? You could always go for the gusto and buy a tonneau cover.

I have the OEM cargo net. It's sturdy and awesome! I can hook it in 3 configurations or so. The only reason i got it was to have it for a swift coming vacation to better secure luggage and footlockers. Net didn't arrive on my doorstep in time:/ beats the Hell out of ratching everyhing down and gives me more piece of mind than those skinny bungie nets.

But id say if you haul gear or whatever alot go for a tonneau. One day ill get the g4 elite.

How much extra slack is in the net? In other words, how much higher than the plane of the top edge of the bed can you go, how high can things be stacked? It looks fairly taunt, so I was thinking maybe a 6"-12" above the edge? I do like the tighter mesh/squares.

I looked at the Spidy Webb, but even the small looked too long for the short bed and I was worried about too much slack and not enough stretch to secure the load. Did you use it for the short bed? If so, then maybe this will work

The hooks for it are double ended so you can unclip them from the bungie strands of the net and clip them to another strand of the web to tighten it up. I was carrying a bunch of odd sized stuff for camping and the detachable hooks made the net fit custom around all of it. It comes with a bunch of extra hooks so it can be hooked any and everywhere to the bed, as needed. I was taking a hard look at the Toyota net, but when I saw this in person, (especially at about half the price) I grabbed it right up.

And yes, I have the short bed.

Edit: It also comes in a mesh bag that will fit in the bed storage box or easily behind the back seat.

The oem cargo net has lots of adjustment room. I have filled the bed to the roof making dump runs. I've packed the bed tight with camping gear and I know nothing will fly out with the cargo net.

I just use a cheap roof rack cargo net from WalMart. It doesn't reach over the entire bed (I have a 6 foot bed), but with the cleats I can make it work quite well.

Anyone else have experience with the stretch variety? I'd love to hear what brand/model work on your short bed.

    Thanks

i went ahead and ordered the OEM. I havn't goten it yet, but I've stumbled across a hardware kit for the net. Anyone know if you need additional hardware to use the net?

Forgot to come back to this thread and comment on adjustability but I second jprovence on the net being very adjustable.

You won't need a fit kit for the net. Do you have factory bed tie down cleats correct? The net attaches at the cleats via the buckles/loops on 4 out of the 6 loops, and the last 2 near the tailgate hook in via a metal loop on both sides that you bolt on stock bed bolts (the hooks bolt in a specific way). Instead of buckles, the net uses snapping hooks for the 2 metal loops you bolt in.

Since you have a 2013 you should have the grey tie down loops near the cab side to also anchor the net to. If I have a lower profile box/suitcase in the bed I just hook on to those tie downs and hook the other end onto the factory floor d-rings near the tailgate, then just synch it down.
