At a VT dealership w/my 2010 w/a shot compressor, which went at about 39,000 miles. Anyone else with the same issue? Toyota and the dealer have offered to pay for 1/3 each, and my 1/3 will be well over $700. I've been told that this is very rare, which tells me it's a defective compressor. I think Toyota should make good on it.

You are outside the 3/36k though. No extended warranty?

They are going above what is required...

You are past the 36,000 warranty. They are paying for two thirds of the bill.

I had one on a 06 grenade. Luckily under warranty. They told me just the compressor was $2,500. The whole job was about $4,500.

You cannot change just the compressor. The filter/dryer also needs to be replaced due to contamination from the damaged compressor.

Actually over $2200, including labor. I called Toyota USA, they put me on hold and called the dealer, then said that was their official position.

I had thought about it, but had no issues w/my two previous Tacomas and decided not to-My Bad! They did offer my an after market extended warranty (5yr/50k) for $2200.

My mother's '09 had the AC go out. She's in NH, I'm pretty sure they covered it under warranty at the time.

The compressor locked up, and the clutch wouldn't disengage. She said it would squeal when she drove it, even with the A/C off. I explained to her that she had to take it out of defrost.

She was able to drive it after that and get it repaired.
