I'm hoping I can get some help troubleshooting why my installation of a Pop & Lock PL8521 doesn't work.

What I've got: 2013 TRD Off Road Double Cab w/ Leer XR100 (keyless lock)

    What I did:
Followed this guide. I mounted the lock unit in my tailgate, no problem. I routed the cable down through the same port as the camera cable, using my pocket knife to cut a second port in the tailgate & chassis plugs. Connected the long cable to that, and routed it down along the passenger frame connected to some other existing wire. I came up through the front passenger floor under the seat, then routed up to the front kick plate. Locating the correct wires was easy, as the guys who installed my Leer XR100 w/ keyless entry used the same wires (blue/pink & blue/black). I tapped in just below their taps, and connected to the taps. Shut the door, tried my remote and nothing happens with the locking unit.

    What I've tried:
I tried disconnecting my XR100's taps and connecting to those - no luck. I connected the XR100 to my taps, and it works fine. I disconnected and reconnected the 2 other connections in the PL8521 (under the bed and in the tailgate) and it still won't work. I tried swapping the wire connections up at the tap and back in the tailgate. I tried both locking and unlocking. No matter what, the locking arm won't fire.

Any suggestions? I picked up a multimeter from Radio Shack today, but haven't had a chance to test the lines yet as my girlfriend is borrowing the truck today. Is it possible that the locking itself is DOA? If that's the case, do you think I'm better off trying to exchange it with Amazon or contacting Pop & Lock directly?

What if you tapped into the new wire instead of just under it?

So... apparently it helps if I actually make sure that the little metal tabs on the inside of female part of the taps gets slotted into the inside of the male ends. They were bent off to the outside. Works like a champ once there's actually a proper connection!
