I've just picked up an '06 Taco 4cyl 4x4 with 104K on the clock. I've heard the choice to go with synthetic oil should be done early on, not in a motor well past break-in. Any truth to that?

I switched over to synthetic on my 2004 at a little over 200,000 on the odometer. It's at almost 250,000 now with no negative impact.

I had 180,000 on my Jeep To when I switched over. Had 220,000 when I sold it. I had the same question back then and everyone I talked to about it (that switched) had no issues.
Oh BTW , that baby is just getting broke in at 100,000 :D:D

If you want to change to synthetic, go for it. I didn't change mine over until 40k miles. You can alternate from synthetic to dino every other oil change if you really want, it's not going to hurt your engine.
