Would it be possible to bolt up a 6 speed behind my 4 banger? I know my truck being a 4 wd makes it more complicated but I think it would be sick!

What's the benefit?, it already has a worse overdrive gear than the 5?

The 6-speed should have 2 OD gears.

Yeah, I have the 6-speed in my V6, and it isn't anything special. I only know how to drive manual, so that's what I got, but the "overdrive" isn't much of an overdrive. I hear the 5-speed is better in the 4 cylinder models. Not a mod you want to bother with.

I was assuming the 6 speed was a better transmission, the 5 speeds are a little rough

6-speeds have actually got a somewhat bad reputation.
People prefer the automatics over the 6 speed.

Not True. 5th gear in the 6sp transmission is 1:1, so only 6th gear is an overdrive (.85).

    Sorry, my bad.

Personally, I would rather have 5th as 1:1, and 6th closer to .79 rather than .85, which would help mpg. Not sure, but I believe the FJ comes with .79.

I'd agree with the stock rear gears a .79 would bring the highway rpm down nicely. What would be even better is Toyota start with something like 4.33 instead of 3.73, and then had 2 ODs.
