It is personal preference really. I've got a DC and my daughter is 8. She sits on the passenger side with no issues. We had a booster seat in it when I first bought it but I can't see a car seat being any issue either. She could sit behind me and there is enough room. I'm 6' tall and the seat is almost all the way back. The only issue with her sitting behind me is her kicking the back of my seat when she moves around.
We have taken it to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado two times since I bought it new with no issues at all. It's nice to be able to throw the luggage in the bed (covered) and have the inside of the truck empty with the exception of all my daughters' dolls.
I have averaged 22-23 MPG with the truck and seen a high as 25 once.

There is no doubt that the Sienna will be more "convenient" but the Tacoma has little to no issues as far as I can tell. I'm happy with it.

Trust me.... It's better than my other car for hauling the family

My wife swore she would never be seen in a minivan.

But now, you couldn't pry her away from our 2011 Sienna XLE. It is just the right tool for the job. I like to call it "The Lexus Bus"...............

My wife said the same thing and she has stuck by her word. I personally like them and wouldn't have any issue driving one (who do I give my man card too? JK lol) but she wouldn't even think about it.

I have had experience with mini vans and 4 runners. I really liked the 05 4 runner TRD that my ex's mother had. There was tons of space and it was comfy. Plus you still get to keep your man card while driving it. I wouldn't worry too much about car seats. They will eventually disappear and then you wont really need a mini van. You don't want to be stuck with a vehicle that you bought only because you were worried about how many car seats would fit. That 4 runner was perfect for 5 people and all of our camping gear too. If you need more storage you could always get one of those torpedo luggage bins to go on your roof racks.

i'm a minivan hater, but that said i had to drive a sienna for a couple days a while back and it was nice to drive, couldn't complain. imo it is by far the nicest minivan on the road. but as others are tossing out there if you can do 4runner you might have a happy medium!

We just got the Tacoma so we've had the Sienna for the past 7 yrs. As we got the Sienna expecting our first child and when I first sat in it...I loved it...and I kept thinking...all we need in here is a toilet and we would be set for life!

As soon as the second kid came, I went and got an Odyssey. But I kept a DC Tacoma. Best choice ever.
--But I realized they kids NEVER rode on the tacoma cause it is too much trouble to move the car seats back and forth. Plus, it is not just the kids, it's their gear. Strollers and bags. No room for that in the Taco.

But I recently sold the taco and got an 04 4runner. Very content with my choice, especially since tha Taco had 200k and alot of expensive repairs were needed. I made out on the sale of the Taco and got a good deal on the 4Runner.

So if we do to OBX, we can do the 4runner for the 4x4 beach. the oddyssey ain't doing that.

Anyways, I say both is the best answer. Even if you have to go older with one due to cost restrictions.

Wife has 5th Gen 4Runner, I have DC Taco. We take 4Runner everywhere. One little one, another on the way, 100lb GSD. Only change we are gonna make when the new arrival comes is a Yakima box for the roof rack....
