Bringing this back from the dead. I have been doing alot of research but i still havent got the answer to this question: (here we go)

    So mine is an automatic 2003 double cab pre-runner 2wd (4CYL 2.7L)

-Can I convert this to a 4wd keeping it automatic? I guess im confused because i have seen 4x4 4cyl but they are 5 spd correct?

and the only automatics 4x4 i have seen are the 3.4 V6

school me up fellas. Thank you in advance

5.38 gears. I've had it up to 75. Takes a extra bit... I'd say 0-60 is only about 2 seconds slower than stock. The truck was never fast haha.

And with 42's the 5.38s will work. You don't really wanna go too low. And if running 42's you ABSOLUTELY need a crawl box. I need one if I ever go bigger.

    gotcha.

thats my plan after school. I want to take the macho taco approach, just on my x cab. d60 with leafs and between 40s and 42s. I was thinking a super charger to move the tires but if the 5.38s will work to just drive around on then fuck the super charger, crawl box it is!

Depends where you find your parts. A t-case can be found for $150. Get a shifter with it, if not maybe $50. The front diff with the axles and hubs and stuff can be found for probably under $500. A front DS can also be found for probably $100, along with shortening your rear DS which can cost about $150.

What you really need to do is find a totaled 4x4 truck with a J-shift t-case and swap it in. It can be done for under $1000.
