Just wondering if its still good on your 2 gen taco . And if the pump or fuel filter went out at what mileage and what was done to repair the prob. Been reading some horror stories of what it takes to fix these two gems money and labor wise.

118,000 miles and I think my fuel pump or pressure regulator is going bad. About a week ago it started taking longer to turn over and start after it has sit overnight. I don't hear the fuel pump prime either. Battery is fine and it cranks good just takes about 3-5 seconds to start. I don't know what to check :notsure:

It's not hard to replace if you have basic mechanic skills, does require dropping the fuel tank. If you buy a new one at a dealership the pumps are about $600 or you can just upgrade to the URD fuel pump kit which runs about $175. I already installed one on my 12' Taco when it had about 3k miles but I did it to keep up with the supercharger

These items rarely go bad on Toyota Vehicles.

More often than not when they are replaced it is due to someone throwing parts at a problem rather than finding the problem first.

A fuel pump does not need to be primed as soon as it has voltage it pumps the fuel does not drain back into the tank.

It takes 3-5 sec to start? That is a very long time all most makes you want to go back in the house and get a cup of coffee while you wait. Regulators either work or they don't accurate fuel pressure is fore most in how the engine runs you would know right away if the regulator was bad it would run like --. The only method of checking pump/fuel pressure is gauge, a good one.

Feels like a long time when normally it starts in a second. Runs fine after it starts.

Look elsewhere. It isn't the fuel pump or filter...

I had a similar prob exept it would turn over for ever and not start at 76 k. The mechanic checked fuel flow and spark all good then changed my spark plugs put a bottle of sea foam no problems 2 months later.

Taking longer and longer to start after it sits for 4-8 hours or so. Any suggestions on what to check? If I shut it off right after it starts it starts right up.

Correct, and I'm a dumb azz. :anonymous: It was the battery after all. So to the OP, 118, 000 miles, fuel pump is fine.
