That is was I said. At first I thought it was broken...

Then I basically just set them to the middle to see how it works. Haven't messed with it since I set it up, but so far, it feels good to me. Makes me wonder how they would feel if setup by a pro? o_O

ya, there are books written on the stuff. is your truck corner-weighed? That would be the first place i'd start. Get your weights known and go from there.

The key is knowing what you're feeling and knowing what to adjust! My dad has a great book on suspension setup based on that, i'll try to find the title...

I don't have an X-1 yet. Trying to figure out which is the best ecu or piggy back for me. I would prefer a plug in one cause I'm too tired to wire one in.

I do have an older Autronic ecu lying around though I won't be able to fully use the vvt-i it would either be in an on or off position. Not sure if that is much of an issue. It also can't control the drive by wire so I would need to install a mechanical throttle and pedal. It would also take me a few weeks to wire in and get going.

To give you some backround my final goal is for 450-500rwhp, 300ish rwhp to start off with. Its got a gt35/40 same intercooler as yours, 3" plumbing and exhaust. Standard internals for now. Haven't got injectors or fuel pump yet. I'm a bit worried about my cross over pipe after seeing yours. Mines only 2", where on your photos yours looks like its atleast 2 1/2".

First thing first. Upgrade the fuel pump. Does yours come with an external fuel filter from the factory? I have heard rumor that it does, but I am still not certain.

I am not aware of the Autronic ecu that you mentioned, or its capabilities. However, regardless of whichever ECU you decide to use, if your OEM ecu connectors are the same as ours here, then you can purchase a plug n play extension harness to wire into. Much more user friendly in the end.

Currently, my ProEFI isn't controlling my throttle body, even though it is capable of such a task. I just need to get it mapped out the next time I go to have my truck tuned. But that won't be until I have the ID2000's. Being that the ProEFI can control throttle by wire is why I went with it at the time, versus dealing with the hassle of having to convert to cable. Supposedly, Haltech is making their Universal Standalones capable of controlling throttle by wire as well. Either they have already, or will be soon. You should check on that.

    My cross-over is 2.25".

The guys running the AEM, ProEFI, Haltech, or Map-ECU have left the VVTi portion of tuning alone. Had someone done tune testing to validate how much adjustment was for a good benefit over OEM calibration, we could probably pick up some more HP. Problem is, that for a tuner to spend that much time testing out just that specific portion of engine control, is a lot of money over that of the regular tune itself. And since these tunes aren't done by a company doing calibrations for the masses, it just is easier to leave the VVTi tune in OEM form. Has worked well, so why not leave it alone?

Yeah Tor we have an external fuel filter in the engine bay, it has quick connect fittings and takes all of 1 minute to change.
You say your ProEFI isn’t controlling the throttle body at the moment…does this mean the factory ecu is still controlling your throttle body? If this is the case does this mean your ProEFI is wired in parallel to the factory ecu? On the VVTi side of things…is it normally left to the factory ecu to control it or controlled by the aftermarket ecu with close to the factory settings. I have no doubt tuning the vvti specifically for a turbo install with only hp in mind rather than emissions & hp would provide a measurable gain, though like you say is it worth the time/money. Probably not.
In your thread I haven’t seen any photos of how you have done the turbo side primaries, collector and where the crossover has joined in. It would be interesting to see how you have tackled it.

You guys are quite fortunate then. Our OEM fuel filter is in tank, and is not a serviceable part by itself. If you get the chance, would you mind posting a picture of your filter, and a part number, if you can easily find it? I am quite curious about it.

Alright, to prevent any possible confusion, currently I am running the OEM ECU with factory injectors. Everything is practically stock.

When I wad running the ProEFI to control the turbo kit, I had it wired up so that I there are four plugs. Two for the throttle body and two for the VVTi.

For both systems, they are currently, and even when in use, connected so that the the OEM ECU controls both. So even though the Pro128 was controlling timing, fueling, and safety features, it left the both of those alone. Basically in parallel. When the time comes to be retuned, I will have the tuner MAP out the throttle body so that the Pro128 will control it. All the tuner will have to do is swap connectors for the throttle body, then map out the voltages. That will also mean that my speed limiter is removed as well.

If I ever felt like doing the VVTi, the same would take place there. Since I am getting Kelford cams, my VVTi will be mechanically restricted, so I likely will not mess with the VVTi function.

Now, for the X-1, one major reason that you don't want to use it, is because it is limited to 200% load, and is MAF based. With a turbo kit, you will quickly surpass 200% load. I did many a time. Strange things happen because the X-1 doesn't know what to do past 200%. Not good. At the time when I found that, I was the only one doing that, and no one knew that fact 200% was the limit except for likely the program writer.

The second issue with the X-1 being MAF based, is that when you reach the duty cycle of the MAF sensor, due to flowing more air than it can read, you are likely up a creek without a paddle. That is around ~430 + or - grams per second. I cannot remember the exact number. Been to long.

There are other reasons as well, that you don't want to use the X-1, but unless you want me to get into those, the ones listed are the most critical.

I hear that with the Haltech, you need to install a TPS sensor, if you want to run a cable TB. But again, you should check to see if their Universal units can now control throttle by wire. Then you won't likely need an additional TPS sensor.

I know you Aussies always have some pretty damn good tuning solutions, and aftermarket, so if not something from here, then there has to be something available there.

I would list the UCON as a possibility, but it has just recently been installed on its first turbo'd 1GR. Still has to be tuned and proven to work properly over a lengthy period of time, before I say get it.

There is also the AEM Standalone. Which they also sell plug n play extension harness for. Those have been proven twice on turbo 1GRs and thousands of times over on other vehicles.

    Ready for more. :)

Oh, also, it has been a secret what my passenger side header looks like. I haven't posted pictures of it. Some resourceful individual person might be able to find what it looks like, but I have just kept it to myself as far as the internet is concerned.

Different headers on each side? haha. I want to see these headers:D I'm pretty sure I saw a pic once a while back but it was removed pretty quickly. Aren't these supposed to be very performance oriented rather than just an easy off the shelf setup like the doug thorley's?

What what?! But seriously, I was going to make my own turbo kits. Just need more tools. That is why it was a secret. It was built as a proof of concept, and worked very well actually.

Driver side is a Thorley. Passenger side is not. There have been pictures that are close to showing it, but not it specifically.

I think I did show it to Large when he came over?

Are you going to have matching headers when you get your built engine in? Right now I imagine you are fine, but I would think you might have flow issues at the y-pipe (unless you are a true dual exhaust) when you start running lots of boost. Although could be very minimal effects.
