It's too bad you can't legally shoot them.

OP, you can get skid plates to cover your gas tank from rocks and stuff, but since you dont go off road that wouldnt be necessary, unless you wanted to use it to protect from the assholes that stole from you

How much are they? Or where can I find them?

It'd be more for protecting from this happening again.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
I was researching skid plates for my truck and found out that for the gas tank you'll need to install the "TRD straps" that have the studs on them. Unfortunately us SR5 guys don't have them factory.

    http://www.amazon.com/Spectra-Premi...&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive

Since you already have to drop the old tank no big deal. Then pick up that sweet budbuilt linked above and have a nice day.

Shoot that motherf@cker, it was self defense.

Check around on fuel tanks for prices. One option is a salvage yard. Probably could get one for a decent price there. Also you can buy a Dorman OE fuel tank at Advance auto for your 2011 Tacoma for only $250. Worth taking a look anyway if you are not going to get the insurance company to fix it.

Insurance is going to take care of it. I'd rather replace it with an OEM tank anyways.

Not if they are simply stealing gas from your truck. Unless the law has changed very recently, which I doubt. Besides, Shooting someone for stealing gas is way over the top. Not very Christian for sure. I'd simply take the copy of my surveillance video, and call the cops. Let THEM deal with it. As long as they are not trying to come into my home, then all bets are off.

You can shoot anyone on your property who isn't authorized in Texas IIRC.

Morally though shooting someone for stealing gas is pretty fucked up.

'The use of deadly force to protect property is contained in Texas Penal Code§9.42. This section of the law lays out a couple of scenarios where you are justified in reasonably using deadly force to protect your property. The first is if someone is committing trespass or interference with your property and you must reasonably use deadly force to prevent arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime or criminal mischief during thenighttime. If someone is unlawfully on your property and attempting to commitany of these crimes, you will gain the legal justification for using deadly force.'

And in San Antonio, even if you shoot and kill someone legally, you still have to worry about their cousin's cousin shooting your son in the back at the grocery store just to get revenge.

Morally shooting someone for stealing a loaf of bread is fucked up. You're not feeding a starving child with stolen gas.

that was pretty common when gas was so high, could have happened.wonder what a new toyota tank costs?funny here in texas its legal, although not real smart,to shoot somebody for vandalism at night.might tend to cut back on the thefts.
