Fuel door sticking

The fuel door on my 2010 will only open about halfway. I can push it the rest of the way but don't want to force it or break something.

Any thoughts? No recent hits to the truck at all.

 

Common problem... oil the hinges

 

Mine actually hits the inside and makes a horrible creaking sound. No idea why it started that. I have been too lazy to bend it out and find it a little funny to see people jump at the sound at the gas pumps

 

It seems like if I pushed it further I'd get the creaking and such.

mine does the exact same thing. the fuel door hits the inside about half way through opening it. i have tried pulling it out, but it didnt help

 

Silicone spray seems to help some, still a little contact..ugh

 

Mine does it too. 2011 with 45k miles. Gonna try some silicone spray.

 

White lithium grease on the hinge pins. It will last longer than any oil, which will wash out in no time.

 

^This. If you take the truck to the dealer for oil changes, they should spray lithium grease on all the hinges, including the fuel door. (It's the "lube" in "lube, oil & filter".)

If the door is hitting something, the hinge wire rod may be bent. Does the door fit flush when closed?

 

Yup, that's the odd part..no issues there.
