Hey guys I have a 2wd Tacoma TRD sport that I just bought and was wondering whether putting an aftermarket locker would make a huge difference off road before I go out and spend money on it. And I know you're going to ask these questions so I'm just going to amswer them right now. I didn't get the off road because I wanted the hood scoop and it was 2000 more than the truck I got. I didn't get the 4wd because it was going to be 3 to 4k more than the 2wd and more expensive to do any sort of suspension lift. Other than that any comment or suggestions are appreciated!

Locker will help but 4wd is always nice to have for those sticky situations

Ya I know I just couldn't justify spending 4k more for it when 90% of my driving was going to be on road ya know? Plus I heard more issues arise when you lift 4wd something to do with the cv joints and I didn't want to do a drop bracket

Seat covers, weather tech digi fit, bug deflector, plasti dip wheels, magnaflow muffler, and many more to come!.. as soon as i get money. Ill probably go broke typing this...
you can always do the 4 wheel drive swap on down the road with the FJ transfer case like they did in Tacoma Magazine. Thats what i'm gonna do after I graduate from college and make a little more income.

    Just my .02

From my experience I wouldn't get a locker on a 2x4, that's a large investment and in most cases it would be as effective as loading a hundred pounds in the bed and wisely using throttle.

If your going to be spending any significant time in situations where you need a locker on a 2 wheel drive than just save yourself the headache and go 4x4. I would buy a winch rather than a 1 to 2k investment in a locker.

Meh don't really need a winch not doing any crawling. And I got a 4x2 not really sure there's even a way to make it 4x4 not even sure I'd want to to be honest because then I wouldn't be able to lift it as easy and there's reliability issues if you don't do drop bracket up front on 4x4 when you lift them

TBH on most offroading i do, 2wd gets me into plenty of areas. Do some offroading with what you have just make sure you have recovery gear and if you need more from your truck you can decide what direction to go based on your needs.

Also, you could convert it to 4wd but the cost could be significant i.e. as much or more then the 4k to just get a factory 4wd. Most lifts (except spindle lifts) are the same for 2wd and 4wd. Most people are reliably running various lifts without problem
