How long can the 2001 3.4L TRO 5 Speed manuals go? I am looking at one with 200,000 miles on it. Is this too many? I really don't know a lot about them, as I am new to the Toyota world. What are your opinions, assuming maintenance was good? What should I look out for? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I actually owned that exact truck extended cab. Little 5 Speed banger crawled all thru the Bedford Mountains in Pa (Mostly without 4WD). I am one for taking care of everything I have and some of the issues I had with mine was at about 100,000 miles a seal in the rear axle went...My mechanic said it was due to undercoating sprayed over an air relief valve (Thanks Toyota for making me take your complimentary undercoat for "free" and costing me even more money). Needless to say I hate my local Toyota Dealer.... Right around 100,000 I also replaced a CAT converter, two O2 sensors, and finally the entire exhaust. But! that's expected with a 2001 so no harm done there. Pretty easy to work on yourself and in my opinion the engines will last damn there forever with the obvious maintenance here and there. Far as I know there was never a new clutch put into it before I got the truck and it seemed perfectly fine. Before you buy, check the common replacements and that the 4WD sticks and doesn't pop out when the wheel is turned hard on rock. All in all I loved my 2001! So much that my everyday vehicle is a 2009 Tacoma and love it as well! Good Luck hope this helps a little!

    Welcome!

When treated nicely, the engine will outlast the frame, body, transmission and the cockroaches after the nuclear apocalypse...

When treated poorly, it's anyones guess.

Keep up with routine maint and be proactive about repairs and you see a happy 400k out of it.

And btw, I bought mine with 219k (full maint records too) on it and there are zero problems.
