I get a little light rubbing towards the cab when the wheels are turned and I hit a good size bump/dip/etc..

I'm running like 2" to 2-1/2" of lift on 265/75/16 and wheels with the same backspacing. The rubbing was worse when I had about 1" less of lift.
    No mudflaps either

A lift for you wouldn't hurt I suppose???

    good luck

Yeah I don't know jack about PreRunners. My advice will still work for you though if you want to do it that way?

Do they even make a spindle that's only 1.5"ish? He doesn't want a 4" lift.

not seeing how a small lift will help as the suspension still cycles the same.

it has to do with backspacing

Yep, a small lift will help on flat terrain, but you are still going to rub turning into parking lots/driveways and offroad. Running the bigger tires with 4.5 backspacing you are going to have to trim, but it shouldn't take much at all.

1" lift from 3rd gen suspension, 265/75/16 ATs
OP: I upgraded to 265/75/16 AT tires mounted on 4.5bs, 0 offset wheels.

After I took off front mudflaps, it was still rubbing on the inner portion of the fender flare (the part that would be normally cover by the front mud flap) at full lock or reversing and turning etc. I used a hairdryer to heat up that piece and bent it inward a little. Does not rub anymore under any circumstances. I do not offroad however. I also have 4x4, but Prerunner should be similar/same ride height.

+1 on the rep for this from me too. One of the rare useful and comprehensive posts.

Not to thread-jack, but, pertaining to your recommendation on those 1.5" AAL options, can you comment on load capacity if you remove the overload like they recommend? I'm looking to do exactly what you mention in this post (5100's at 1.75 and something for a 1.5"ish in the rear). I don't love the idea of killing my load carry capability if I put in the progressive AAL and dump the over load leaf, but, on the other hand, I don't want a 2.5" lift out back and have to max out the 5100's out front, which isn't a good idea.

One option I can't find much info on when asking around on here is Wheeler's HD (heavy duty) 1.5" progressive AAL. Wondering if that is the best all around way to go??

You will have a greater load rating with the 3 lead I believe. You just won't have a big one at the bottom stopping them from going past flat. At the end I the day of you're worried about load bearing get air bags made for just that. You won't get more lift than you want and you can keep from sagging when you load up.
