    Hi Guys,
I know there are a lot of topics on this but I can not find what I am looking for. So my truck is an 08 v6 auto 4x4, lifted 6" on 35's. Right now I have stock gears and I was going to put 4.56 in but I just bought a toy hauler that ways roughly 5500lbs loaded. So with that being the case would I be better off going with 4.88 to try and help save my drive train a little bit?

I run 4.88's with 37's, and it's just a tad lower than stock 3.73's on stock tires. If you need to tow a lot get 4.88's but realize your mileage will suffer.

username's advice sounds right. If you tow that toyhauler more than a little bit get the 4.88 ratio gears. I went with 4.10 on my last truck (a Chevy V8 with 3.56 gears from the factory and 30" tires) for towing and it was all good and didn't hurt mileage much at all. I know you are all different, but with those tall and heavy tires 4.88 will not be a big mistake. If you are worrying about fuel mileage and only going to pull the trailer short hauls or a couple times a year then 4.56 makes sense. Either way you are going to love having some ZIP back in your Tacoma!

i am personally going to 4.88's......i do highway alot but i run some hard trails for entire days and weekends at a time and the extra power on the trail and even more important the control ill deff be going with 4.88's that and i plan on 37's at some point...ive debated this for 2yrs and thats my 100% decision

Also remember to factor in the power you have (especially low end torque). The less "guts" your motor has the more benefit from high ratio gears. This is why the 4 cylinder Tacomas have 4.10 gear from the factory and still runn so strong off-road (unless you strangle them with tall tires).

Yeah I think I am going to go with the 4.88, I live in western Washington and we have a ton of mountains around here. Plus I have a work truck as my dd so I'm not to worried about mileage.
