I recently purchased a brand new 2012 tacoma and now to keep it in the best shape possible I am thinking about what to do for undercoating. I live in eastern Canada so we see pretty harsh winters with a lot of salt.

The dealership offers a teflon based undercoating that has a 10 yr warranty but it is 499 and you have to go back every year to get it touched up for an additional price. They also offer the new(ish) anti-rust modules for the same price, but they said they dont recommend them for trucks.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts, past experiences or advice to share.

    Thanks

I have talked to quite a few very happy Krown customers, and these are old VW owners with cars that pre-date body galvanizing. Annual retouching is required by all of the systems that I am aware of.

    Danny, welcome to TW.

I would recommend the undercoating, however the Teflon outer coating I have seen some issues with.

I have had a good experience with Fluid Film (Lanolin based so it's not bad for the environment). I bought the fluid film kit so all i had to do was borrow a compressor. I'm very happy with how its turned out but as stated above you're going to have to apply it before the cold season starts.

Was just about to ask something very similar - though i have not researched anything. I just traded my 2001extended cab (best truck ever) for a 2013 double cab .. 3rd toyota truck in a row. Had to trade in the dog area for a kid area.

I have always just had a Ziebart undercoat spray done to my trucks and has always lasted well. IU had asked the dealer about undercoating and he did not recommend undercoating the truck ... ??? odd to me. I would and think i def should ..

    thoughts?

    thx

No Ziebarts locations near me, any thoughts on the work Krown does?
