Shortly, come August, I'll be headed from Cali over to Yellowstone for a wedding. No wheeling involved :(.

To get there I seem to have several choices for travel: truck, train, or plane.

What would be your preference (and why) to get from here to there??

FYI, hot air balloon may be a bit too slow for my purposes... same with horses and rickshaws. Stick to faster modes please! lol Looking forward to seeing what everybody thinks.

trains are awesome, you get to see stuff the highways and interstate cant show you.

plus if you do it right you can drink the whole time and still get to the wedding and back with no problem.

Planning a fall time train trip now from Memphis to your area. $$$ is right and I've never done it. It's a short ride but, I'm still hoping I don't feel to confined or restricted to one area.

Time is the factor here I think. I have to take off work to head out, so I don't have as much time as I'd like to see the sights. It's about either 15 hours to Yellowstone by truck, or 24 hours via train.

I do wish train travel was more convenient or I'd definitely do it. As it is, the truck and train are about the same amount of $$$.

I suppose it comes down to seeing the sights and setting my own pace, or sitting back and chilling (plus a few brewski's) while keeping a schedule.

I might do the train! I've slept in enough freeway rest stops already.

If you get a chance....You've gotta drive the BearTooth highway just outside of Yellowstone.

Yellowstone was cool but The Beartooth scenic highway (and Chief Joseph Highway) were absolutely breathtaking!! The scenery up there are what calenders and brochures are made from!! On July 8th, we were up at 10,900feet and walking around in the snow!!

(I don't have my picts uploaded yet or else I'd post some)

I'll have to drive that! It turns out that all the trains from LA are far too inconvenient to take, so I'll be driving myself up there with my Tacoma. Thanks for the info.

The reason for no train is that I'm certainly not going to wait at a bus station at 1AM for a 5AM train... and then again at a train station for 9 hours for the connection. Ugh, the rail system in this country needs an update BAD.:(
