I went to Pep Boys today and I noticed they now sell:

Royal Purple oil filters made by Champ Labs that are similar in construction to the old style ACDelco Ultraguard Gold filters.
The bad thing now with the economi $15.

I'm been doing a little research about oil filters and man are there some differences. Below is a chart I created and some spots are blank because I could not locate the information and it does not include all the oil filters that have been mentioned in this thread. I placed them in order of micron filtration but I understand that's only as good as the efficency.

So since I'm looking to use full synthetic oil and looking at this listing I'm thinking the Amsoil is the top dog. If I could get an expected life for the K&N filter then maybe it would go the other way. I don't think I'd wait 25000 miles though to replace my oil and filter but it's nice to know you're not in any rush.

And of course the Mobil website was useless in providing any real specs. The Wix website gave me the impression to change your oil filter at the manufacturers recommended intervals, no extended life. As for Fram, the lesser filter models start dropping efficiency quickly even though they are still rated at 20 microns.

    HTML:
    Filter Filteration Efficency Expected Life
    K&N Performance Gold 10 microns 99%
    Amsoil EOA 15 microns 98.7% 25000 Miles
Fram Xtended Guard 20 microns 99% 10000 Miles
    Wix (P/N 51348) 21 microns
Royal Purple Extended Life 25 microns 99% 12000 Miles
    Mobil 1 Model M1102 99.2%

    * All the Efficiency ratings were based on the Beta Ratio so these
      are standardized
