    Good Afternoon All!

Planning on traveling a bit here with the fiance and kids. We will be carrying quite a bit of stuff and pulling a popup trailer. No bike racks so they will go in back, would like to add a weather tight Roofbox, something similar to - http://www.rei.com/product/784506/y...ferralID=7d9cc64e-f195-11e2-9389-001b2166c62d -

I have seen ZERO pictures of someone doing this on top of their cab, being a double cab I have a lot of roof space. I will need to add the rack and the actual box itself, what does everything think of something like this? I am sure it has been done, I just have no way of knowing if it's a big no no or bad idea since I haven't even come up with a picture of someone doing it.

If there are people out there, what box are you using and how does it work out for you?

    Thank you!
    Mario

I've seen one before but can't find a pic. I had a yakima roof rack and would carry a box like that on my old 93 K5 Blazer. It worked like a champ. The one thing you will want to think about is the weight capacity of the rack. For the Tacoma, Yakima has it listed at 100 lbs. One of those boxes weighs around 45 lbs. You do the math. That said, I think the limit on the Blazer was 120 lbs and I put well over 225 up there, including 2 kayaks (big wind load), and drove half way across the country with no problems. That truck was made of a little heavier sheet metal tho. Perhaps someone with a yakima/thule rack can give you an idea of how much they have comfortably loaded.

Yakima Kayak Rack Mount to bedrail, hardwired xm, GPS, & radar detector, installed mp3 jack on stock radio
    Hello
I use Yakima racks all the time and have also worked for a dealer and have sold these boxes. The install is simple and straight forward. and no matter which way you go, you will spend around $300 for the basic rack setup. then start buying any of the accessories you want. Box, bike racks, kayak racks ski mounts etc etc. It sounds like you already know what you want. Take a look at the Yakima sight to see what fits your truck, then find a dealer, order online, or see what you can find on ebay. My racks are just above the bedrail, so with kayaks on, they're still below the cab height. and I still have the bed for gear.
    Hope that helps

    P.S.
The outdoorsman 300 would have a higher weight rating, but you might have to modify to mount it to truck bed
