Hi all, I'm new to this forum and was thinking about purchasing a Tacoma. I'm looking at a 4 door 2006 Tacoma with an SR5 and TRD package. The truck has 95,000 miles and drives and looks like new. Carmax is asking 17,500 for it and I have the ability to purchase one of there warranties (6yr 150k). I've done some research and NADA is 18,800. I've looked at other trucks with the same miles and features, it seems as if its fairly priced. I really like the look and dependibility of toyota but there are other trucks out there a few thousand dollars cheaper such as the F-150. Let me know what you think. Thanks!!

Just tow my 17 foot boat and be my daily driver. Do you think it's a fair price?

Have you got a CARFAX report on it?

Have you driven it? Driven it in 4WD and 4lo range? Opened the hood? Looked underneath?

Have you compared prices of other similarly equiped/year/mileage trucks online?

I wouldn't purchase the warrany. I bought this truck because they are built to last and I've been duped by a previous dealer warranty before (on a Honda) that I never used. It was a huge waste of $. Just my opinion, but save the $ and ensure the scheduled maintenance is done.

It's 2WD, yes I drove it and looked under the hood. Everything checks out, it drives fine and is an automatic. The car fax is clean as well no accidents but not to many service records. I've compared priced on autotrader and from dealers here in Florida. The prices are similar but I was just wondering what everyone thought.

Honestly, at 95K, I'd be prepared to drop some coin on things(suspension, balljoints, bushings, u-joints, water pump, etc.) if the truck is all original.

That's over priced for a 2wd if it was 4wd sure that's pretty good deal but not 2 wheel

Trade in price of mine with 46k miles is 17k. As a plumber I do a lot of work in local carmax shops and they do go thru all vehicles thoroughly. Even go over the paint of all nicks , scuffs, etc.

I bought the extended wty,got tired of wife bitchin. Truck about paid for,and haven't used wty.

Bought my 08 AC TRD OR SR5 about 2 months back 32,700 miles. 4 x 4 with Leer 700 cover. Dealer wanted to sell me an $1800. extended warranty and was shocked when I turned it down. Stated "You mean your buying a $20k truck without an added warranty?" Told him, "You got it." Expected more fight from him but I guess he could tell it was useless. Truck came with a 90 day 4000 mile already. That gives me enough time to see if anything is wrong initially.

As to the OP question. I would agree that sounds high for a 2WD. Patience will reward you. The 95k miles is a non issue (IMO) on these trucks.

Can you have TRD and SRS at the same time?

Also, a new 4dr is 24-25 sticker. Should be able to get that down some, but options will be a bit more.

Service records won't show on a carfax report.

The only records of maintenance you'll find is if the maintenance was done at the toyota dealer, and I think that's dealer specific.

If the owners did all their maintenance DIY, there won't be any records.

3 months ago I got a 06 trd sport access cab with 17k original miles at lexus excondido for 17k the window sticker was for 23999. I would pay 15 for 100k.

However if you tow a boat you might want to get an f150 or a tundra. Tacoma can barely pull a 17 foot canoe

Crawl under the truck and check the frame where the motor mounts attach. The early 2006 models did not have the frame gussets and the engine mounts were prone to collapsing into the frame rails.

Yes sr5 is like an interior ammenities/trim package. The trd is more mechanical/exterior upgrades. But you can be fine with a non trd and put aftermarket parts on that will be much better using the money you save

Sounds high and if it is at Carmax it probably is high. Probably 2-3k high and no on he extended warranty. Less than 3% probably benefit from them.
