    I visited a couple of audio stores today for quotes and suggestions for my system build. My requirements are for a clean clear sound. Not interested in earth shattering bass. Just want to boost the system some so that I don't have to run the volume up beyond 75% at highway speeds and at the same time enhanced the music as a whole.

    One of the must haves was to be able to maintian the use of my factory head unit. I know that it does not provide the best signal, but I like the look and features of the OEM unit. So, that being said, these are the quotes;

    1) Alpine Component speakers, model SPS600CV, for the front doors @ $199.00. An audio control unit, model not listed @ $200.00. Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp model 250-4 @ $299.00. Alpine 8 inch sub in a box. amp wiring kit @ $49.00. free installation. total $1050 plus tax out the door.

    2) Hertz DSK 165.2 component speaker set @ $109.95, Memphis LLD6A audio control @ $149.00, Kenwood x450-4 amp @ $299.00, Polk Audio DB104 sub @ $89.00 Misc wiring kit and hushmat sound deadening @ 90.00. Sub box and installation, plus any incidentals @ $377.50 $1207.86 total out the door including tax.

    I'm looking for suggestions or reviews on these products if anyone has used them, or recommendations for other components that will achieve the same end result. Just good clear sound, enhanced signal throught the audio spectrum, ease of use, and of course as economical as possible. Looking around the $1K price range.

    TIA LF

    Who sales Hertz in Macon? I've always taken my truck to Audio Zoo in Macon, been getting stuff done there since I was 16 which equates to 15 years now. This go around i'm trying to install my own equipment but may still go there to buy a Memphis 5 channel amp that they sale. I've heard alot more positive talk on the hertz equipment on TW than I have Alpine as far as components go but haven't heard either so can't give definitive answer. I think any decent component set will give you a better sound as compared to the factory speakers. I think it comes down to how much you want to spend and who you feel most comfortable installing equipment in your truck if you are not willing to do it yourself.

    Audio Zoo has the Hertz equipment. The first setup listed above was from Kens.

    I didn't realize Audio Zoo had that, I was just in there about a month ago but I was more in there looking at amps than speakers. I think either path is going to give you the sound you are looking for its just a matter of money and who you want working on your truck. Those Alpine speakers seem to pricey to me, and I can't even find them online. Audio control unit model not listed??? You want something that you don't even know what it is in your truck? The hertz component set looks like a good price along with the memphis audio control unit. I like memphis speakers especially their subs. Kenwood may not be popular on TW but from what i've read they don't have many issues which is a good thing. The only thing I would change out of Audio Zoo would be the sub from polk to memphis. The polk sub may match up to the amp better though or you thought it sounded better, i'm not sure. The box seems pricey but i'm sure it will be custum built. Not sure if you can buy Hertz speakers online unless you find an authorized dealer the same with memphis products but you can get that amp way cheaper...

    You may also think about buying a box a head of time then just take the two up there buy the rest of the stuff there and save yourself some money.

    I have a ********* sub box that I need to sale if you were interested in it. I bought two a while back but only plan to use one. When I bought them they had pioneer shallow mount subs in them I plan to put an older memphis 10 I have in one but I have to modify the hole cut out and seal it up a little bit before I do that. I'll be back in Macon probably the weekend of August 10th or 24th not sure which yet.
