My Tacoma is a work truck, over heating.

    If the engine doesn't get up to temperature, it will throw a CEL.

    Removing the thermostat will not help an overheating problem, unless the cause of the problem is a stuck thermostat.
    The thermostat simply restricts coolant flow until the engine hits the set temperature, then it opens.
    If you're overheating, then you are exceeding the set temperature. It won't run any cooler without the thermostat.

    And be sure to test any thermostat that you buy to replace it in a pan with a candy thermometer. I've had a number of bad thermostats (and radiator caps) right off the shelf.
